And they were 1st overall, 1st overall, 4th overall and now 1st overall. It's not as if they were just first round picks. They were extreeeeemely high first round picks.

Their GM was too dumb to protect Luck. He didn't just take a huge volume of hits, but lots of just complete blown protection blindside crash test dummy hits. They hurt to even watch. Perhaps a cautionary tale of taking the franchise LT if available for us, and of course, thanks again Bruce Allen for alienating our one certain first-ballot HOF player.

I always felt the emphasis on O should be QB,LT,C,RT. Especially LT and C. Elite Cs are incredibly rare, always liked nabbing one if available. The need elite LT self explanatory. But if you have elite LT and C, can plug a grocery store clerk in at LG. If you get a good but perhaps not elite RT, then you protect both edges, and have the middle solidified, and again can put JAGs at G. Instead we let our HOF LT go and have one elite lineman, at the lowest leverage position on OL. Ugh.

No he’s not. Watson isn’t THAT good. How good he really is and what he’s worth have gotten more than silly. People starting to sound like Snyder at the negotiating table. He’s not worth 4 first round picks and Chase Young. He just isn’t.

Or even 3 1st rounders and nothing else. Would you trade Allen, Payne, Sweat for Watson? So he can whine for a trade 9 months later? No way. The big problem with Watson is no character no loyalty. You sign a $150M deal, you owe the team some loyalty, as they have made long-term investment. It is obscene to sign a deal so large and then demand trade less than a year into it. You have doubts about organization, better consider that BEFORE signing new deal period. Favre was right.

But basically, most posters advocate absurd bounties for good but not great players, and think we can attain solid players for almost nothing. And it doesn't matter, Watson isn't being traded. Houston ownership will let him sit and fine him into bankruptcy, just on principle.

Not THE DAN, Cerrato. LOL. Cerrato after being hit in the head with a baseball bat 15 times.

Chase Young is a generational talent at the 2nd most important position in football. Burrow is a solid but not great QB. Bengals should have drafted Young. You don't trade Young under any circumstances. EVER. Anyone suggesting so is a Cerrato, plain and simple. Young is a potential HOF player barring major injuries, the best player on team hands down, in 1st season, has everything you want, heart, talent, passion, character, on and off field. He is the type of guy you build a SB contender around.

What those 4 1st round picks should get you, in successive years, is a franchise LT, franchise shutdown CB, franchise LB, and franchise FS or WR or QB. Imagine looking up in 4 years and having Young, a Pro Bowl LB and CB, and a true franchise LT.

Can the Homers please stop it with Watson? He isn't getting traded, other teams with higher picks and multiple higher picks can offer more, and what it would take is much more than we should pay. Also, Watson controls where he would go if traded, and would certainly go to a team on the verge of contending, rather than one of laughing stock franchises in NFL, us. We have NO elite players on O except a freaking RG who can't stay healthy. There are teams loaded with talent who can offer Watson far better situation, and no player or agent honestly believes THE DAN can go 4-5 years without reverting to his historical baseline behavior of meddling, backstabbing, etc.

We have to draft our own franchise QB. Period. That is the only way you get one, with exceedingly rare exceptions, none of which are relevant in this year's QB market.

What is so hard to understand about all this?

Would have to check but I wonder how much cap it would free up?

Immediate cut would be $14m, post June 1st $19m but you have to carry the cap hit until June 2nd, not a big problem for WFT, they could still spend knowing it was going to come and use it to cover rookie salaries etc and even extend a couple of other players who are still under contract

If Alex Smith thinks he is going to start anywhere he should be worrying about head injuries rather than his leg..... thought he was classier and smarter than taking shots at the team on the way out.

I agree with about everything you wrote except for the loyalty part. Teams trade and cut and force to restructre contracts at will and for 99% of players "past accomplishments" do not account to anything resembling job security. So, if teams 99 times out of 100 do not show a shred of loyalty, why should players do?

That's a huge chunk, take away 10M of that for Cam tho

Why do I keep see campaigning for Cam? The dude is D.O.N.E. He can’t push the ball down the field and isn’t accurate.

2020 stats:

Deep ball attempts - 31st
Accuracy rating - 32nd
True QB rating - 30th
Total QBR - 30th

Everyone wants to just keep throwing out well known FA QBs and act like they will be legit just because of a change of scenery. A lot of these guys are FAs for a reason. #camno

And in Watson's case he has a list of things he can point to creating disfunction. Hopkins trade, next to no weapons added, Fuller likely gone in FA, a Pro Bowl quality season wasted, management telling him they want to hear his opinion and then immediately doing an about face. While he signed a $150M contract (which lets be honest, he's unlikely to actually get all of), his good faith in signing has been undermined by the organisations actions. Why should he just shut up and play?

Yes, I don't where this idea has come from. Certainly no noise from the organisation.

Cam apparently came out and said that there are not 32 better QB's than him in the league. No, looking at those numbers there are at least 29.

I watched a couple of NE games last year and he looked awful, especially compared to his best seasons. I'm not even sure I'd consider him as a backup at this point.

If he wanted to be a backup he would stay here. He wants to be a starter.

He's not staying here at his current cap #. Even if he restructured it's pretty doubtful we'd even want him back.
