The number 1 ranked FA QB per The Athletic?
This man
(They clearly have Dak ahead but he’s not a FA)
I don’t see this happening and I’m not in favor of Cam but I also won’t be all pissy if they do sign him. He’d be the QB1 on this current roster IMO
I can’t even begin to comprehend how, after the abysmal performance Cam demonstrated in NE this past year that anyone could 1) declare Cam the #1 FA QB, and 2) declare Cam the #1 FA QB

The list is bad lol also he probably has the worst surrounding cast in the league outside of Darnold..
Scalper 02-23-2021, 01:44 AM Franchise QBs rarely hit free agency - unless they are past their prime. TB12 may be the only exception in the league's history.
Yup.

The real problem with Cam isn't his abysmal accuracy, inability to effectively read complex Ds even after all these years, health issues (hey a running QB who can't stay healthy and never learned to optimize his pocket passing, imagine that). It is that he lacks the heart of a champion. He showboats and wants all the credit when things go good, then lashes out when things bad and people want to hold him accountable. Like during his SB window. NEVER win the big one with a turd like that at the most important position. The real problem with Cam, even if he was a great physical QB, is his character.
Scalper 02-23-2021, 01:53 AM I respect that opinion. I'm just saying I don't look at the QB position any differently. A reach is a reach. Drafting a 2nd round talent in the 1st round is dumb.
I agree in theory, but it may not be that digital. If you have a guy you think is your franchise QB and you have him slotted late first or early second round, and all you have is a mid-round 1st and 2nd, what do you do? Draft the guy you think is a franchise QB 15 slots early, or not get him? Trading back or up ideal, but not always possible. I am a staunch BPA guy, but I think all rules have some exceptions, and a minor reach for a franchise QB may be necessary. This is MUCH different than trading 4+ high picks to move up super high, etc.
We have people seriously discussing trading 4+ 1st and 2nd round picks for a QB. If we spend a single 1st or 2nd and get our franchise QB, we won, even if we reached a bit. What I think ultimately happens is that guys with obvious 3rd or later round grades get drafted 1st round because teams desperate for QB, we should avoid that. Take Mac Jones. To me, though I love the guy, he isn't strong armed enough to take 1st round going pure BPA. I wouldn't trade up for him. But if he is sitting there at #19, which I doubt, you have to ask a hard question. If I really think he is a long term franchise QB, and I have a MLB or CB rated higher, do I reach 20 spots to find a long-term answer at most important position in football? I'm not saying I know, but for a lot of proven GMs, the answer is yes.
Scalper 02-23-2021, 01:57 AM Houston's price is going to come down if they become serious about moving on from Watson. To me they are pulling a Bruce Allen and making outrageous demands at the moment, so it is hard to take anything serious (remember when he asked for Denzel Ward in a Trent Williams potential trade with the Browns?)
They are sending a message to Watson. You'd better try to make this work because we WILL hold firm and let you eat the shitburger. You give even an inch taking offers, Watson wins, and no way they let him win. There is absolutely 0% chance the ownership in Houston caves.

Diva. With the attire to match.

100% agree with this. And with that being said, I can't imagine RR will settle for him. Even on a one year deal.

The best thing for Houston is to take the 3 number 1 draft picks they'll likely get (along with any other picks) and rebuild. As Bruce Allen showed (at our expense) it is foolish to insist on keeping a marquee player, that doesn't want to play with your team anymore.
Watson is a 25 year old elite QB, who has the luxury of sitting for a season if the Texans play hardball with him. I'm pretty sure the Texans will change their tune as we get closer to the draft.
The ship sailed on Cam last year. If Ron wasn't interested then I see no reason why he'd want him now.
