Yeah I didn’t articulate that the way I wanted reading my post again. I agree it would be negligent to not sign anyone else. But short of a top tier FA or draft pick, our target should be a low priced vet, not mortgaging draft picks or sizable cap space for a mid tier QB who will most likely not provide much, if any, real upside over our current QB tandem.

Agreed.

I wonder if the Jets are really ready to move on from Darnold. If so I bet we could get him for a 2nd or even a 3rd. I’d take a shot why not? Let’s be real, Gase is a QB ruiner

Do not want Darnold and certainly would not give up a 2nd or 3rd for him . He isn't any better than what we already have. Lower tier starter at best. Also Gase isn't necessarily bad at scheming up offense. How is Scott Turner any better or how would he get anymore out of Darnold than Gase? Just makes no sense IMO.

I would not give up draft picks for JAGS and hope they stick or outperform what we have. It was Stafford or bust.

Mariota, Darnold, Fitz.. NO. You got two guys in Allen and Heinike. You draft someone and under no circumstances bring back Smith.

This is why if we can't get a guy we really want in a trade, that gives us a quality starter for 2-3 years at least, we should draft and pick up a 1 year rental like Fitz as a bridge. And a trade is looking less and less likely to me. If Allen and Heinicke are 100% for camp maybe 1 of then can start and run the offense at a good enough level for us to be competitive again, but to me it's too big an if. Bring in a vet to compete with them, then keep the best 2 plus a rookie. To me its low risk bringing in a 1 year FA rental as you're not thing up a ton of cap or draft picks on a trade for an equivalent talent (unless by some miracle you could snag Watson), and if the rookie is a bust, you try again next year.

Can't help feeling if we put all our eggs in the one basket of 2 injured QBs it could come back and bite us.

We have to try just about anything. I believe thinking you can roll with Allen and Heineke is a big mistake. Neither one of them is the answer IMHO.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of trading for anyone, but just rolling with Allen and Heinicke is not really a viable option.

They will likely add a QB before the draft and in the draft.

I think a fourth for either Maritotta or Darnold wouldn’t be the end of the world and draft a developmental guy late might be a decent compromise.

No, not the end of the world, but would they be significantly better than Taylor, Fitzpatrick, Dalton, Beathard, Winston, etc.? I don't think so - so why give up draft capital?

Do we have any hope for the practice squad qb we had last year?
