Maybe they're gambling that the Raiders don't want to carry Mariota's cap hit this year and might release him or give him up on the low later.

Perhaps, maybe they heard the Raiders asking price

Is it just me or does there seem to be more focus on the QB position than more years? Maybe just my impression but overall QB play seemed improved this season (few teams seemed to have ended the season with a dire starting QB), and there's arguably a good crop in the draft, but it seems there's more noise around the league on QB movement this offseason.

It's the Mahomes effect, everyone sees KC has this new SB contender every yr and it's mainly due to #15. The urge to get a QB is now at an all time high

Not sure I see that altogether. I can see how player power has pushed things a little (Stafford, Watson, Rodgers and Wilson stoking the fire), but the Chiefs seem the only team absolutely set at QB (at least up to the Stafford trade). There's either opinion that multiple teams don't have their ideal QB (i.e. Giants, 49ers, Raiders), there's a change of guard happening/likely (i.e. Falcons, Saints, Colts), there's instability through injury, performance etc. (i.e. Cowboys, Eagles, Dolphins) or there's a need for an upgrade (i.e. WFT, Broncos, Jets). Seems to me more of a coincidence of events almost league wide than any active approach by the majority of teams.
QB's are always in high demand it's not anything new.
It's funny, for all the hype about QBs moving around this offseason only one has moved so far. That will change of course as we move closer to the draft but the hype about all these guys moving is just that, hype.

Two, actually.

One trade is what I meant.
