SkinzWin 02-12-2021, 01:34 AM Yep, if he can come back healthy and 100%, Dak is probably a couple tiers above all "available" free agent QBs.
Mariota is not markedly better, if he's at all better, than the likes of J Winston, A Dalton, T Taylor, or R Fitzpatrick...probably not even J Brissett or M Trubisky - all of whom you don't have to trade assets for.
Disagree. Need someone decently young and mobile. Everyone you mention is not worth signing IMO due to age, mobility issues, injury history, INT issues and/or not being able to read defenses well.
Winston - Eats interceptions
Dalton - Red rocket explosion
Taylor - Mr. Glass
Fitzmagic - Old man INT
Brisket - Charred (in the garbage)
Trubisky - Too risky

Haha. Yep, that's my point. They ALL have flaws. That's why they are ALL currently backups. Neither is a great deal better than the others.

I don’t see it that way.
Mariota - 27
Winston - 27
Dalton - 33
Taylor - 31
Fitzmagic - 38
Brisket - 27
Trubisky - 26
Out of these guys, those in their 30’s are washed up. Trubisky, Brisket and Winston have MAJOR flaws. I don’t see where Mariota has anything super glaring. Numbers are solid from a large enough sample size. I think he could be like Ryan Tannehill and be able to flourish in a system that’s a good fit for him. I think he could do well in WSH. I don’t think the others will do well anywhere.

Oh I see. You think he could be like a Ryan Tannehill, the guy that came to Tennessee, replaced Mariota, played with the same players Mariota had, and made that team much better than it was with Mariota as the quarterback. Ok.
Chief X_Phackter 02-12-2021, 04:36 AM I'd still roll with J Winston, T Taylor, or A Dalton before giving up a damn thing for the 'same guy' in a trade.
AnonEmouse 02-12-2021, 08:39 AM I doubt Winston will be available. I suspect Payton sees him like a modern day Testaverde. If he can be cured of his INT throwing, he's got the skills to be a good QB.
I'd take Mariota if a better scenario didn't develop, but for a low cost trade. If someone offers the Raiders a 2nd or a 3rd, they're welcome to him, but if we could get him for say a 5th, that's not a bad result. Like Winston, it's not too late for him and he's shown signs; his worst season in Tenn was 2017 and overall he's rated a shade under 90. There's something to work with there.
But I'd still prefer us to use the draft even if it means rolling with Allen/Heinicke for next year.

Good post.
I'd be willing to trade one of our two third round picks for Mariota.
I don't foresee our getting a QB we would want in the draft but stranger things have happened.
skinsfaninok 02-12-2021, 09:40 AM I think Mac Jones at 19 is intriguing.. He looks to be pro ready but it's so hard to bank on a rookie

Jones can make all the throws. Isn't he a bit of a statue, though? Is he mobile enough for our ideal offense?
Also, I have a problem in general in trying to imagine how a QB who has stood untouched behind a dominant OL and thrown to wide open receivers throughout his college career might do in the pros when he will be under pressure throwing to receivers who are much more closely covered.

This ^ Just don't trust him when he's had it so easy on that team. I could see him being another Ryan Mallett or Matt Cassel...talented, but just not quite good enough for NFL.
