WFT's Off-Season Thread

While I'd love for BS to stick around long term, it really looks like we're being played by the same tactic Kirk Cousins used.

We're already paying too much for a Guard on the tag, and since he hasn't budged and signed long term, it appears he's bolting after this season.

So instead of overpaying for a Guard this year that we're losing anyways, I fully support getting something in return for him right now.

Looks like his salary this year is guaranteed, which is not great but maybe Miami ate some of the cost 🤔

From what Ive seen from Flowers .. he is not a mauler imo. Hes doesnt get great push off the line, doesnt have a great punch and doesnt get to the second level well. Only great Gs have those 3 traits so its not some huge knock on the guy ...

Hes an average player imo. A C+ player. What he has in physical abilities over Wes, Wes seems to have over him mentally.

Since the WFT hasn't been able to sign Sherff long-term, they may plan to trade him as part of the package to move up and pick a QB in the draft. That may be the elephant in the room. Also, regarding Flowers, $18M - $10M = $8M saved. Oh my Goodness, could it be about the money - again?!

This is revisionist history. He played well for us.

the recent tag and trades:

2020 - Ngakoue was was tagged and traded for a 2R.

2019 - Clowney was tagged and traded for 2 players and a 3R

Clark + 3R = 1R, 3r and future 2R

-----------------

Seems like a 2R would be great, more likely a 3R and 4R

-------------

well see .. maybe this is their way of addressing the piss poor interior run game .. but Flowers isnt really a mauler like Scherff. Hes more like Wes, decent enough but not an impact player

No one is giving that much for Scherff, he can't stay healthy. You're talking allocating almost 10% of salary cap, fully guaranteed, to a guy who is a major health risk, and then must be immediately resigned vs. being under contract 4 years like a rookie drafted. We can pray a contender has major guard injuries. You can draft solid Gs with 3rd and 4th round picks and better teams do all the time and start them. Clowney is a freak of nature, ex #1 overall pick, and plays the second highest leverage position in football, pass rusher. Ngak is also an edge rusher. Clark is also an edge rusher. Only QB is more important than an edge rusher. No one is giving up nearly as much for a freaking RG as they will for dominant or talented edge rushers.

Flowers certainly mauled some people year he played for us. Certainly no Scherff, but way better than Schweitz--if he regains form he had with us. Miami such a clown show tough to tell.

He did, he played well enough but I think fans here over valued him bc we had low expectations and he managed to beat those low expectations. We expected a disaster and he played at a starter level and played better than Lauvaua who was a disaster.

We were all shocked when the Phins gave him 3/30 and were happy the Skins didnt match that.

Now Phins fans are happy to get some cap space back with this trade.

Flowers is a C+ player imo. Nothing wrong with that .... if he was making 4-5M and we didnt already have a C+ guard in Wes making 5M ... on top of the other guard making 18M.

By the time i post this they will probably announce what the swap is. [emoji1787]

But here are Miami's picks and ours this year:
Miami-
Round 3:*No. 81

Round 5:*No. 156 (from Cowboys through Eagles)

Round 7:*Nos. 231 (from Texans), 258 (from Chiefs)

WFT-
Round 3:*Nos. 74 (from 49ers), 82

Round 4:*No. 124

Round 5:*No. 163

Round 7:*Nos. 244 (from Vegas), 246

Assuming Miami benefits from dumping cap, what is 8M cap relief worth?
We get 156 they get 163? 244?
The way the two teams picks line up I don't see many options. Though I would love if we got 81 and they got 124!!!

It's possible but I doubt it. Flowers plays LG so I don't think we acquired Flowers to replace Scherff.

I just see 26 million per year for 2 guards and think why would they add 9 million if they didn't think they could do something with the 17 million that Scherff is getting . . . thats a TON of $$$ for 2 guards!
