So Snyder promoted Smith to VP of Player Personnel but was like that's as far as you're going in this organization mister. No more promotions for you.

No more promotions for you. That'll learn you real quick boy, you're only going as far as I let you. Nothing says "I dislike you" like getting a promotion and a raise. MTK 02-16-2021, 11:08 AM The funny thing is it was probably Snyder that convinced Ron to give Kyle a shot and work with him for a year to see how it goes. At the end of the day you can't fault Ron for wanting to pick his guys to work with. For whatever reason it wasn't a good fit with Kyle. Oh well, happens all the time. Hopefully it works out great for both sides. skinsfan69 02-16-2021, 11:34 AM Um we had bad qb play in alot of those losses, a head coach with cancer, no preseason (that affected new coaches exponentially more than establishef teams). The schedule is what it is. The team played well in the playoffs, against an all around strong team. Thats reason to be hopeful. Add in that it seems like Rivera has a plan and is executing it, and I think you have reason to believe with the right QB play we can make noise in the NFC Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk I am hopeful. Never said I wasn't optimistic about our future. I just like to keep things in perspective. We won a bad division w/ a losing record. skinsfan69 02-16-2021, 11:37 AM I doubt that Kyle Smith's exit had much to do with RR at all. I think he was as good as gone from the moment he told Dan Snyder in the crowded draft room that he (Snyder) didn't know jack shit about football when Snyder ordered that DH be drafted in the first round. From then on, he had zero chance of becoming the GM of the WFT, even if RR wanted him. I doubt those were his exact quotes. He would have been fired on the spot. skinsfan69 02-16-2021, 11:40 AM The funny thing is it was probably Snyder that convinced Ron to give Kyle a shot and work with him for a year to see how it goes. At the end of the day you can't fault Ron for wanting to pick his guys to work with. For whatever reason it wasn't a good fit with Kyle. Oh well, happens all the time. Hopefully it works out great for both sides. Didn't we have these same type of discussions when Eric Schaeffer was let go? BaltimoreSkins 02-16-2021, 12:03 PM 1. He was kept on because he has extraordinary ability in identifying NFL talent. 2. As long as he stayed in his office watching film and making spreadsheets he could be tolerated because Snyder wanted the benefit of his extraordinary talent. 3. RR does not have all the powers he was promised by Snyder. That's right, I said Snyder lied to him to get him on board. It's a standard business practice. Did it ever happen to you? It happened to me. 4. Snyder didn't fire him but his punishment was that he would never be promoted to GM as long as Snyder owns the team. I think you are missing the most obvious. Smith was cursed with the Kavorka and stepping on Dan's vibe. SunnySide 02-16-2021, 12:26 PM Kyle Smith had 2 strikes against him. He stood up on a table right before they drafted Haskins saying what no one else in the room would say ... "are we seriously going to throw away all of our work on this draft and spend the no. 15 overall pick on a guy we dont have a 1st round grade on just because the owner, whose standing to my left, wants us to?" RR likes his people. Water under the bridge imo. I imagine Kyle Smith may land a GM job at some point and I wish him the best, but whether we experience success will have nothing to do with whether or not we retained him.
