AnonEmouse 02-16-2021, 09:59 AM I doubt that Kyle Smith's exit had much to do with RR at all. I think he was as good as gone from the moment he told Dan Snyder in the crowded draft room that he (Snyder) didn't know jack shit about football when Snyder ordered that DH be drafted in the first round. From then on, he had zero chance of becoming the GM of the WFT, even if RR wanted him.
Possibly but then why not fire him before hiring RR and saying RR had the power now? If Snyder's ego/vindictiveness led to him leaving, I doubt it would take nearly 2 years for it to happen.
AnonEmouse 02-16-2021, 10:03 AM I hear you lets celebrate the good times, very few around here.
I am just speaking to the over-excited that say we are a QB away from a dynasty; we are not.
Agreed, we're a QB, WR, MLB, and 2-3 OL away. There are areas we could also do with reinforcing, but fixing those 5 or 6 (without damaging our strengths) would put us in a great position. Maybe we can't address all that in one offseason but nothing say's it's not a possibility.
MissouriSkin 02-16-2021, 10:05 AM BTW I wasn't saying you were shitting on him, my words were directed towards those implying he should quit being a fan just because he doesn't like the moves Ron is making. If that was the case at some point we should all quit being fans because we've all been there at some point.
I’m sorry....I’m trying to find a nice way to say this but there really isn’t one. But when you say you’re going to quit being a fan because you don’t like the move of who is the second in command of college scouting....you’re a drama queen. Sorry. That’s just a fact. Fans seem to forget that Ron and everyone he’s hired has forgotten more real football than any of us will ever know. I get the caution and the frustration....I’ve been a fan since 1970...so I get the wait and see attitude....but this whole “I’m out if they sign this guy or let this guy go or draft this guy at 19 instead of the guy I have in my mock draft” stuff is a little hard to take. Hope this doesn’t offend, just trying to explain where the “go somewhere else” posts come from.

So just out of curiosity...considering how decent the o line came on at the end of the year...why does everyone say we need to replace most of them? I’d take a LT at 19 if we can...have Lucas and Moses battle for RT and keep the other as swing backup. Have Schweitzer and the guy from LSU battle for LG...I mean you always go for depth, but do we REALLY need to replace 3 of the 5 guys urgently?

And probably a much messier departure. I don't understand why it seems so hard to accept that both RR and Smith seemed to have moved on. Both seem to have had a good working relationship, but RR wanted a GM who has been there done that, and Smith went somewhere that maybe he has a chance to move up. Smith's departure had NONE of the nastiness and backbiting that usually accompanied a BA or DS forced departure.

No team has all the pieces all the time. That is where coaching and adjustments come in. One of the best parts of this year was the 2nd half adjustments in games. Admittedly, one of the worst parts was the 1st 15 minutes on both sides of the ball. Hopefully with a year of playing in the system under the teams belt they will start stronger.

1. He was kept on because he has extraordinary ability in identifying NFL talent.
2. As long as he stayed in his office watching film and making spreadsheets he could be tolerated because Snyder wanted the benefit of his extraordinary talent.
3. RR does not have all the powers he was promised by Snyder. That's right, I said Snyder lied to him to get him on board. It's a standard business practice. Did it ever happen to you? It happened to me.
4. Snyder didn't fire him but his punishment was that he would never be promoted to GM as long as Snyder owns the team.

In my estimation, RR is an excellent people manager. The man is so smooth he doesn't make waves.

Except for number 3, about which RR said in a news conference that it was Snyder's decision to approve executives titles, I made it up.
