Former #Panthers GM Marty Hurney is meeting with members of the Washington Football Team brass today including coach Ron Rivera, sources say. Hurney is the top candidate to be their new GM, a hire that could be official this week.

Just about every HC, coordinator and GM has been fired at one time or another. Not to say he's the man, but getting fired in and of itself isn't much of an indicator of future success.

Hurney had harassment and domestic violence charges in his past that were later dropped. Sounds like an A+ turd to me. I think there are probably much higher quality, younger, more cutting edge GM candidates out there than him.

It’s one thing to bring in people you’re familiar with. It’s another to bring in EVERYONE from your previous employer and not diversify with people who will bring different perspectives. With each additional former Panther’s hire, I get a little more frustrated.

Why?

Why?

Because bringing every single person from Carolina just gives me the “Yes Man” feeing to it. Do great leaders bring in people they trust? Yes. But they also bring in people with a diversified range of experiences and talents to balance the leader out.

Plus I don’t think Hurney has done much to qualify himself as a talented GM recently. Relying on his past track record from long ago doesn’t cut the mustard in today’s modern NFL. What worked a decade ago isn’t going to yield the same result now most likely. Unless he’s just filling in gaps that Kyle Smith doesn’t have background in and Kyle is essentially running most other things I’m the organization, I don’t like it.

I saw the same note about the guy from Tennessee. Just let it play out y'all.

Per Rapoport:

Sources: The Washington Football Team is finalizing a deal with Marty Hurney to be its new GM. The Team should announce the move later today.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Ron bringing in "his guys" result in the team improving this year? 3 wins to 7, last place to a division title? And he didn't bring in "everyone" from Carolina. Del Rio was an outside hire, and the special teams coach was a holdover from Gruden.

Just a musing really with Ingram being waived by Baltimore. Given that arguably Gibson and McKissick were the only effective running backs (Barber had a measly 2.7 ypc), would you consider bringing in a bruising vet like Ingram or look at picking up a big pound the rock back in a late round or UFA? Is Ingram too expensive?

For me I don't want a guy that's just moderately effective in short yardage, I want a guy I can put on the field at any time and threaten to get good yardage. Even if we maintain what is effectively RB by committee, I think we need an upgrade on Barber.
