What happens with Kyle Smith?Chief X_Phackter 12-04-2020, 06:53 PM https://www.si.com/nfl/washingtonfootball/news/what-is-exec-kyle-smiths-future-with-washington-football-team SFREDSKIN 12-04-2020, 07:43 PM If Rivera passes on Smith, then he’s a moron. I hope Russell is wrong. Warthog 12-05-2020, 12:30 PM I really hope Rivera promotes Kyle Smith to GM, because if he doesn’t, Smith will get offers on other teams. Kyle has helped turn this team around. In fact, if Dan Snyder hadn’t drafted Haskins at QB two years ago, maybe we’d have a QB heir apparent, instead of trading Haskins for a ham sandwich this offseason. Despite our franchises awful record, we have produced some of the best talent at the lower levels of the coaching / GM organization - like McVay and Shannihan. Don’t let Kyle Smith go!!! He has had the ability to get good, starting players in the trash level of the draft ( fifth round and below) and also in the Undrafted Free Agent (UFA). He is the legitimate talent scout we’ve been praying for on this team for decades - INSTEAD of Dan Snyder and his lackey “GM”. Want to know why we are finally winning? Because of some of the draft picks Kyle has made in the last two years! We have two players that are carrying this offense, who Smith picked up in the THIRD ROUND!!! Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen were making the personnel decisions in those two years. That’s why we took Haskins over the coaches and scout advice two years ago. I suspect that that Dan and Bruce listened to Kyle Smith in the lower rounds, and his success there meant that every year he has had more say in the draft, UFA and FA. I just hope Rivera gives him the GM job this offseason, because otherwise he will go to another team for more money [emoji383] and a GM office, where he will build a winner. Can’t lose him. Not just any journo, Chris Russell. He's not exactly high on my list of media with credibility. Chief X_Phackter 12-06-2020, 12:47 AM No, but he brings up a good point - the fact that Ron brought in Stokes. That doesn't mean that Kyle won't be retained or promoted to GM, but NFL guys tend to surround themselves with other NFL guys they are comfortable with, and guys they know they can work with. It's going to boil down to working relationships and philosophies. I can't say it's a sure thing Kyle is coming back; and I can't say that it would be the wrong decision if he doesn't either. From what I think I know, I'd rather see Kyle back, but we'll see... |
