CRedskinsRule 01-22-2021, 07:30 PM I agree.
These are moves that can't be judged today, but I hope we're not looking back in 5 years on Rivera and co. the way we look back at Mike Shanahan or Jay Gruden.
Kyle Smith represents the last of the young guns (Kyle S., McVay, LaFleur) to rise up in this organization and move on to better situations elsewhere. Time will tell if he's destined for a starring role but I'm sad to see him go.
In the meantime I still trust Ron's process, until the results don't pan out at least.
How do we look back on Jay Gruden?
Chico23231 01-22-2021, 07:34 PM I didnt see any of them requesting permission to speak with him while he was here. Chico you should know media spin better than to fall for Chris Russell's garbage. Clearly, he has his love for KS and that is fine, but no one is reaching out to KS as GM. SF is replacing the guy that just signed with us. And the others may see him as a good guy because of their time here, but none of them was pushing the issue enough to lure him away from here.
The one simple fact is we wanted a guy to come in who would not be beholden to DS and would set up a professional football organization. Now that we have someone doing that some people are crying because a guy who thrived in the muck of the WFT front office may be released. Just seems like a contrived reason to gripe about the WFT from a source (Russell) that makes a living doing that.

Kyles has done a good job and Cooley says he is a grinder...he comes to work and produces. He’s not a GM and needs more experience...completely understandable. People who know football understand his value and will add him to staff immediately. So he’s not a fit for Ron, perfectly fine.
Like I’ve stated, we know exactly now who Ron has chose and we know who has been passed over... Kyle, and the 2 guys from Chargers and Titans. We will see what happens.
The org has let talent out the door before, it’s 1000000% reasonable for the fan base to have doubt.
I love Ron and what’s he’s doing...I want these decisions to work out
Chief X_Phackter 01-22-2021, 07:37 PM And if you count the impactful players from 2102-2017 not counting RGIII, Compton, Sudfeld, Morris, players like RGIII had one good year and we gave up the farm for him, Morris 2-3 years. 15 impactful players in 6 years vs 9 in 3 years. Some of those picks were Shanarat’s forgot about him as GM.
Why wouldn't you count Compton and Morris? Those weren't good picks?

Somebody who was in over his head and not a good HC.
BigHairedAristocrat 01-22-2021, 07:53 PM I think some of you here may be making Kyle Smith out to be more than he is. He's been great for us - but he's not gotten a SNIFF at being a GM or even an assistant GM anywhere else in the league - including in SF, LA, or GB - all places where former coaches here are now head coaches. Kyle's good, but lets not have illusions that he's some amazing up-and-coming talent primed for a greater role.
I'd suggest that Kyle - at this stage in his career - is in the exact role he should be in. He's good at it - but not good enough to make any one of the 31 other NFL franchises contact him for an interview for a promotion.
It's been a dismal 30 years for the franchise, and thats made some of you think Kyle allen is more than he is. Its like we're loser kids in high school who want to marry a girl whos a "3" because we think she's the best we can do. And you know what, in high school, maybe she was.
But now that we've graduated college, have a high paying job, lost weight and are in excellent physical shape, and got rid of all that acne - theres a chance we might be able to do better. There's no reason to stick with the "3" that we know when there is a world of possibilities open to us now.
Yeah, I like Kyle too. But there's a time when I thought Eric Shaffer and Alex Santos were indispensable. A year later, i am not even sure I got their names right. It could be Alex Shaffer and Eric Santos. To be honest, I dont really care. We got rid of them and dont miss them one bit.
If Ron prefers Marty and Martin, then I'll trust his judgement and wish Kyle the best.

So true.

Underperforming coke-sniffing frat boy?
Chief X_Phackter 01-22-2021, 09:29 PM I trust Ron !
Yeah man. That is what it boils down to for me.
Who knows, maybe this whole thing goes the way of Schottenheimer, Gibbs 2.0, Shanahan, Gruden...but I feel like RR did his homework before he took this position, and absolutely told Danny that it was going to be his way or no way... I don't think RR would even be here if he thought things would be as they were. So far it is noticeably different. They won the damn division in his first year and were within a TD from taking out TB12 in the playoffs with a dude at QB who had only started 2 NFL games. BRUCE IS GONE. DH is kicked to the curb. Players love being here....so yeah, I'm optimistic. I don't think Kyle's presence on that staff is going to win or lose any games over the next several years, so if he wants to go - bubbye.
sdskinsfan2001 01-22-2021, 09:37 PM Ron has never been in this position before. He doesn't know anymore than we do, how this will unfold. This is like a chain of command with a cable splitter/splicer.
I was a huge fan of the Rivera hire and still am. But this setup still has me a bit nervous.
That being said, even if Kyle leaves, I'm still more excited for the future than I have been in a while. I'd prefer a bit different set-up, but we now have more professionals in the building. And hopefully more buffers between Ron and Danny Boy.
