At 69 and having to deal with Cancer Gettlemen has done what he needed to do for the Giants.
1) Brought in the next Franchise QB replacing a 16 year two time SB MVP
2) Changed the culture of the entire team by discarding some locker room problems.(Odell)
3) Found a Coach who has his players believing in him.
DG might retire or even take a VP spot . I wouldn't be surprised.
Who is this franchise QB and why has he not been playing?

I'm not saying Smith isn't capable. He is the best thing we have had going in the FO in a long time. But you are comparing him to a HOF GM who built SB winners, drafted HOF players and brought in others that are close to the HOF. There just isn't any argument between the two right now.
I don’t know Gettleman well, but at his age I’m sure there is a performance drop off for NFL execs just like with players. When you get to be to an advanced age it has to be hard to maintain the grind of the demands of the job. You give me a young guy like Smith who is already within the organization and has demonstrated multiple successes with drafting talent vs. an older guy who has past experience but may bring a different perspective to how to do things, give me the young guy with continuity all day. I’m going to be pissed if anyone other than Kyle Smith is the guy.
Doesn’t sound good though so far from rumors and reports.

Dave Gettleman might be out after Sunday.
Idk why but between him and Marty Hurney I get the feeling one will end up working with Ron here.
I'd rather have Hurney though, Gettleman is trash. So is Mayhew.
Mayhew and Gettleman are complete trash...these would be detrimental hires.

Just a thought. Smith isn't being lined up for any vacant GM interview - https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-coaching-gm-tracker-latest-news-interviews-developments-in-2021-hiring-cycle
Is that indicative of nobody outside DC thinking him ready for the role, nobody having approached him yet or RR having made it clear via back channels that he's going nowhere and likely to get the WFT job?
Personally I suspect its one of the latter two.
It might even be an indication the NFL is going to push Snyder out so nobody is touching WFT staff until the ownership situation is resolved. Not sure that logic stands up to much scrutiny though.

Doesn't appear that Hurney is on that list either.

NY Bruce Allen is staying put. Glad to see that.

What if the plan is to bring in someone like Hurney as GM and promote Kyle Smith to assistant GM?
I would be cool with that.

I’ve heard a rumor to the effect of Hurney coming in and showing Kyle the ropes of being GM and then retiring and Kyle taking over. Guess we’ll se.

Not the worst idea. Until Ron arrived all Smith has learnt is how to work under a dysfunctional psycho GM and a clueless owner. Giving him a year or 2 solid mentoring by an experienced guy can only make him a better GM in the end.
