Who out there thinks that Portis made it a point to end this crappy jersey number thing quickly and quielty because of the Taylor incident? Maybe St. Joe and the Skins have the full and undivided attention of the players right now? They pretty much cut Taylor off, and I'm sure this whole thing scared alot of players straight, i.e. Portis, MOss, and any other knuckleheads.
This also goes to show that maybe players should start listening to Joe a little bit more. If Taylor did he would be up here instead of down there. I don't know, but I see light at the end of this disaster. Maybe this will make some players buckle down and get straight.

I don't think the Portis thing ended that quietly really, I mean they were only 1 day away from trial which means he spent thousands of dollars obtaining legal counsel only to pretty much give Ohalete (I never spell it right) exactly what he wanted. I think Portis was a real jerk over this situation.

Maybe he did. I mean, why shouldnt he have? He was clearly in the wrong in this situation and the guy has money coming out of his ears. I think you might be right, that they wanted not to have another distraction so they settled it quietly.

If he really wanted it settled quietly he would have paid in full what he was supposed to have paid.

I think portis is a weird and eccentric (spelling) dude, I don't doubt he would have gone to court for the pub alone? Its just timing that they were one day away. I hope Gibbs called him and said, "man, settle this, NOW!"
Maybe this will be a Lawyer Milloy type of wake up call? I know, I know, its totally different, but maybe a message has been sent, regardless if gibbs/skins sent it or not.
Perhaps with the Taylor situation going on Portis realized the last thing the Redskins need right now is more bad publicity. Either that or he finally realized he was probably going to lose the case.

i totally think that all of you guys are wrong about portis. he may have money coming out the a** but it is his money and he is earning it. the guy was cut and who was never going to be a star and portis is portis the guy who can just about break one for a touchdown everytime he touches the ball. he is the smoothest runner since sweetness (walter payton for those who don't know). when a guy gets cut let that be and just go about getting a new job with someone else. cp was going to get the number anyway.

But does that mean he shouldn't have to honor an agreement?

Bottom line, C. Portis agreed to buy the number before Iffy was dropped. He should pay. End of discussion! He should have been a man of his word to begin with!

A contract is a contract, and Portis was clearly wrong, even his teammates at the time (Freddie Smoot, who helped negotiate the deal) said so. It really has nothing to do with the football abilities of either player.
