I'm incredibly tired of mostly white liberals telling me what is offensive to not only Native Americans but to my own race. The rebel flag? Pretty obvious why that offends people. The term Redskin? SMFH!!! They don't even know why Marshall named the team Redskins. I swear I hope Snyder sticks to his guns and doesn't cave in to phony ass pressure from the media. The pandering that is going on is pathetic.

Just add a new definition in the dictionary for the football team that plays in DC. That's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the term, and it's been that way for a very long time.

Language and words evolve over time. Nobody is using Redskins in a derogatory way anymore.

Investors call Nike, Fedex and Pepsico to cut ties with Redskins (https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29396653/report-investors-call-nike-fedex-pepsico-cut-ties-redskins-name)

Now I'm starting to think there is a good possibility Snyder will have to change the name.. Snyder probably already started looking at the yachts magazine for a second yacht and he will need the money.https://www.foxnews.com/sports/redskins-move-new-stadium-team-name-changes-report

It seems like the Federal Gov't is now also trying to force the name change. If I am reading [emoji433] this article correctly, it sounds like the the Skins won't be able to move into any other stadium [emoji909] until the team name is changed.

So now unfortunately Snyder is getting it from all sides. And I predict that if the advertisers and the governments gang up, the NFL itself will be the next group to force the name change.

As for new names for the team, Dan Snyder already trademarked the name Washington Warriors back in the early '00 when he flirted with idea of owning an Arena Football [emoji458] team. So the transition would be natural. Also the team can bring back the Burgundy Arrowhead helmets and go with the really nice uniforms that the team wore for the 70th Anniversary in 2002.

Of course I would prefer for the team to retain the name Redskins, but it seems to be a forgone conclusion that the Redskins name will be going away at some point soon. And at this point I can live with the Washington Warriors and least the team can have a nice set of uniforms. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200702/ae99e59996599b8b67e24fd8828d708c.jpg

I honestly don't care if the team changes names, there are bigger issues going on in the world/in my life to care about this. I just hope that the people who are very adamant about changing the name are as adamant about supporting Native American communities, which are suffering in this pandemic.

Sunny, there isn't anybody out there using the word Redskin to refer to Native American as a slur anymore. I don't doubt that at some point in history, it was a slur. But unlike certain slurs that are still used today, nobody is using Redskin as one. You say Redskin and the first thing that comes to mind is DC football. And I still believe it's a vocal minority of Native Americans that oppose the name, and the rest either don't care and there's def. another minority (https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/in-arizona-a-navajo-high-school-emerges-as-a-defender-of-the-washington-redskins/2014/10/26/dcfc773a-592b-11e4-8264-deed989ae9a2_story.html) that use it as a term of pride. They're probably not as vocal about it because of the many issues plaguing the Native American community today that need attention more though.

But the bottom line here isn't how Native Americans feel, whether in support or opposition to the name. Like anything else, it's the almighty dollar. If the Redskins biggest corporate sponsors put pressure on Dan to change the name, and anywhere he tries to go to build a new stadium tells him he will only get tax dollars to help build it if he changes the name, then at some point the name is going to change. Fucking with a rich man's money is the only way you're going to get their attention.

No, because it's not 100 years ago and I, along with literally everybody else, is not prejudiced against Native Americans.

Go find me any group of people anywhere who are still actively encouraging slaughter against Native Americans and maybe I'll reconsider.

Yep. And from what most NAs have said they're often called "chief" as a pejorative term.
