I can't help but wonder what their backup plan for LT is in case Charles isn't ready. Slide Moses or Christian to left?
Maybe they bring in Jason Peters for a workout and if he impresses, give it to him on a one-year deal. Then Charles won't have to start from day one. If not Peters, maybe another Penn-like tackle just to hold down the fort until Charles is ready. I'm just not sure I'm ready to trust Haskins' blind side to Charles from day one.
Penn is out there, why not bring him back

They signed Lucas pretty early as primary depth, I would imagine he will competing for LT.

Hush your mouth! Nobody wants to see that.
I wouldn't need to see Jason Peters workout to bring him in on a one year deal. He played just fine last season. I wouldn't mind if they paid him well, either.

Jason Peters and TW share the same agent, don't see Peters coming here.

Ron Rivera on Cam "Yes I have thought about bringing Cam in but it would have to be on the right circumstances" Also said he is very happy with Dwayne and Kyle Allen.

Fine by me. We're gonna need a good vet at LT for a year or two IMHO.

I don't know exactly why but I feel like I like Penn over Peters in our situation. At 37 years old, I'm not sure Penn gets many offers if the Skins don't sign him. He proved he could do the job last year.
While Peters is 38, I feel like he's getting more attention and would be more expensive.
Now, we all know either of them would be stop-gap solutions, and I'd be fine with either of them.

Christian is a full DRAFT BUST. He won’t make it past this TC.
The holes at TE, CB and OT will be filled with the new Kyle Smith /Rivera strategy. Use their big $35 mill cap chest to hire fired players from other teams as they are let go in TC and PS ( if there is a preseason). All teams pick up players right before the regular season. I just think Rivera is going to do it on a much bigger scale and part of a real PLAN. Why do I think this is going to happen?
1. Huge war chest. Second highest in the NFL. Most teams are broke by now scrambling for players. Redskins are holding back for one year, Uber-cheap contracts of players trying to stay in the NFL, that have been let go on other squads.
2. Open spots on the team. Most teams are full up with 90 or almost 90. Redskins are at 84. Holding spots open for players to be signed later is off season??
3. Limited UDFA. Last year the Redskins signed something like 8 UDFA. This year it is just 4. Why? Less potential talent? I think they are looking more at the fruit that’s going to drop from OTHER TEAMS. Is there more chances of getting players from other teams OVER LOADED WITH TALENT AT A POSITION? For instance, the Bears have 10 TE’s -they’ll get rid of half. One or two may be worth a look or a small, short contract.
4. I couldn’t figure out why the Redskins got no one of consequence in FA OR the draft at TE. They need TE’s to replace Reed and Davis. They have little talent on their roster from last season. What were they waiting for? Rivera thought Hooper was over-priced. They didn’t pick up Trautman in the draft. I believe they see their players coming perhaps from the cast offs of other teams.
That’s my theory. Let’s see if I’m right over the next few months !! Hiring a dozen or so new players late in the TC and PS cycle at positions of need. If I’m wrong then they DON’T have a plan for certain positions and we’ll get new players there in NEXT YEAR’s draft. Rivera is hinting that they look at this year as being a wash. Too many holes to fill. But maybe they hope to gain players from others left overs. We shall see!

Well we did make the second best offer to Hooper and went pretty far with trade negotiations for OJ so it wasn’t like they weren’t trying. I don’t think we need to try and address every hole with a long term solution in year 1. I do hope they spend some cap money bc while I understand the benefit of not using all of it so it rolls over .... but we roll over unused money every year so at what point do we “go for it”, put all available resources into winning.
I imagine going into year 2, we should have our long term solution at LT, TE and secondary.
If we wanted a TE that bad we would have addressed it somewhere in the draft.
