Good reason for optimism for 2020

McLaurin makes it what it is. Dude was beating Stephone Gilmore and Darius Slay this year.
Against the best CB in the NFL:

Agree. I think most of us are on the Chase Young at #2 bandwagon, but if anybody is still entertaining the thought of trading down, you realize one of the things we lacked when we had Preston Smith and Kerrigan on the edges was the speed to turn and chase down screens from behind.
Young and Sweat have the size to set the edge and of course can disrupt the QB but they also possess the speed to turn and chase on plays like that. So many times we get gashed on screens, some of which was dumb ass Manusky's scheme. But having the speed to chase is key. Especially the Predator, dude will probably run a 4.5 at 6'5" 265.
Kerrigan ran a 4.67 coming out which was great but he's not quite that fast any longer. He's been a great player for us but we need to plan for a future without him. Preston was a 4.75 or so.
Sweat ran a 4.41 (!).
Obviously you draft your pass rushers to rush the passer and they definitely will but having that athleticism to turn and chase will make a difference. It's something we haven't had and you kind of don't know you're missing it until you see you have it.

Kyle Smith did a damn good job.
Also, sticking to the board and not reaching (outside of the Haskins pick) for need worked well. You never know with injuries who will need to step up...that's why you need to fill your roster in Free Agency with need based choices and have the draft used in a back fill best player available.

Amazing what happens when you get Sweat out of pass coverage and have him rush the QB

4.41 and 4.5 on the edges both at 6'5" and 260lb plus. One called Predator and I am gonna call the other Alien. I am just drooling thinking about it.

With a new scheme I think our front 7 will be very dangerous. Chase will be our Julius Peppers clone.

I put the Redskins failures on defending the screen on our previous coaches. Seemed like our pass rushers weren't being taught how to properly ID a screen, a lot of them worked because our guys would turn upfield and head straight for the qb. Hopefully that won't be an issue with our new coaches.

This defense will just get instantly better with Del Rio / RR and getting rid of Manusky’s overcomplicated and poor defensive schemes. We hardly ever stunted with Greg Manusky and Sweat dropped back into coverage about HALF the time. Wait until he’s actually pass rushing most of the plays and the QB can’t easily read our defense because of Manusky’s vanilla rushing schemes. Also, we won’t see WR getting wide open because our DB were unsure what they were supposed to be doing that play.
Then add Chase Young and a couple golden FA at CB and S. I see our defense improving into the top 10 next season.
Our offense will take much longer to improve, and Scott
Turner is a little too green for huge upgrades right away. The offense won’t be that good for another season or two.
