7/9 made it to at least one probowl, 1 x ROY, and 1 x Super bowl MVP.
Scherff was a tackle drafted to play Guard.

What’s the percentage of pro bowlers drafted after the second rounds?

This team needs more blue chip talent not more Troy Apkes or Wes Martins.

What’s wrong with Wes Martin? He’s solid and getting better.

Actually Scherff was a tackle drafted to play tackle. They tried for several weeks to make him a tackle. Guards are very rarely top 5 picks.

We are talking about top 5 picks in the draft, not mid-round picks. There are plenty of pro-bowl players that were not top 5 picks in the first round. When you get a year or two good seasons from a top 5 pick he is a bust.

Young is not Bosa, Young disappeared the last two games. Trade the #2 for picks.

No way he has been more dominant than Bosa waa at OSU. He gets double teamed to death. Also remember that when you know your about to cash it in you might just play safer. He will be better than Bosa. Already is on the collegiate level.

Redskin "no brainers" picks in the top 5

Desmond Howard

Heath Schuler

Westbrook

LeVar Arrington

RG lll

And a few that were good.

Sean Taylor

Samuels

Trent

Scherif ? drafted as a tackle

So, the "no brainer" picks were less than 50% accurate

None of those players had the potential coming out that Young has. None were as coveted. Of course he could Tony Mandarich. Anyone can. But you don’t not draft him because he might he a bust. And honestly if you have watched him the last couple years there is nothing that should make you shy away from him. I can’t even imagine what will be listed under weaknesses.

Yeah. Three pro bowls in his five years with us. Got injured and had issues with Greg Williams if I remember correctly....just another really good player who had the misfortune of playing for the Washington Trainwrecks

That's kind of a false narrative. He was always regarded as a freelancer, a guy who made plays but was never willing to completely buy in and play by the system. Gregg Williams couldn't stand him for that reason, G.Will only wants guys who are going to buy in. Then Lavar kept having problems with knee injuries, and eventually the relationship soured to the point Lavar was willing to pay the Redskins 4 million to get out of his contract. Then he signed with the Giants to get revenge on the Redskins twice a year and his career ended after he broke his leg in a bike accident.

You call Chris Samuels and Trent Williams just “good”. These were the number 1 or 2 BEST left OT in the entire NFL, with numerous pro bowl appearances and long-time, outstanding players on the Redskins. What do you have to do to become “very good” or “excellent” -be a HOFer?

With the first round pick you need a immediate and long-term starter in critical positions. With a high, first-rounder (like our #2 pick) pick you need the above criteria and to a star or superstar. With Sean Taylor, Samuels and yes, Trent Williams you had the best player on the team and a leader. Sean was taken well before his prime.

Of the first five pick busts listed above, you are right -they were bad picks (although Desmond Howard ran back a kick in the SB for Green Bay and LaVar was pretty decent). But some of these picks violated how you use a high draft pick in the first round. It must be for a critical position: two of those first five were WR : Howard and Westbrook plus Dotson (not on list but also a first rounder). WR is not a critical position but a skill position.

Two of the 1st round draft busts above were QB: Shuler, RGIII and also Campbell (drafted in late first round). QB is a hard pick because it’s difficult to know is a QB can transition in the NFL.

Arrington was also good but only lasted 5 years. But again is LB a critical position on the team, when you don’t have a good QB?

Many of these picks were made in the 20 years of the Snyder era, where he and his lackey (Cerrato & Allen) made the draft decisions. Their track record is poor.

In the last two years the draft has been managed largely by Kyle Smith (with some Snyder micromanagement). He has done very well in the 2019 with 8 rookie starters this year! I trust him and Rivera to make the right decision.

Kyle Smith, Rivera, Del Rio and others will undoubtedly scrutinize all of Chase Young’s tape, they will see how he does in the Combine and they will interview him, probably multiple times. They will know a great deal about Chase Young as a player and as a man.

If they chose him, I am confident Chase will do well or better, although nothing is guaranteed. If they trade down, it is either because they had doubts about Chase Young or they got an incredible trade deal that they could not pass up.

If Chase is drafted after all the time spent looking at him, then the expectation is for him to be a star or superstar and a leader on the team. A game changer who helps or inspires the others on the defense to do better. Having Chase Young paired with Sweat in a 4-3 scheme, with Jack Del Rio as their DC, is almost a dream come true.

Young-Sweat could be the best pass rush combo since Manley-Mann pass rush titans of yesteryear. If they draft Young it means he has passed all the tests and he has shown great ability in the tape review. He could be a superstar passing rush freak!

I'm not by any means a talent evaluator, so I am going to trust Rivera/Del Rio and the near unanimous punditry when it comes to evaluating Chase Young but I have a question for all the Chase Young lovers on here.

In the following highlight clip, at the 4:28 to 4:36 mark, he avoids blocking during a fumble return and the guy he doesn't block is part of the tackle. How does that fit with the aggression you would expect from him in the same instance on our team?
