If Smith returns....HYPOTHETICALLY speaking.....MTK 07-23-2019, 07:52 PM Dak will get paid, just the name of the game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk skinsfan69 07-23-2019, 08:00 PM DP is in a great spot. Timing is everything. Yeah he's an average QB but that doesn't matter. Average NFL QB's that are durable are going to get paid. Cowboys have no choice but to pay him and pay him a lot. MTK 07-24-2019, 10:46 AM I don't get how/why people don't get that QBs are overpaid and that's how things are in the NFL. It's the same tired debate anytime the next guy's time is up. Warthog 07-30-2019, 06:03 PM QB is the most important position on the team. Having a franchise QB, who can win close games for you, is the difference between being an average team and being that next level up or even being an elite team. That's why QB salaries keep going up. My problem was not with how much Alex smith got paid. My problem is that Bruce Allen gave him a contract that's too long. It s**ks that Alex got catostrophically hurt in the first year, but if Alex had taken a shorter deal the cap hits without his injury would have been far less manageable. Thats the risk every FO takes. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk Warthog 07-30-2019, 07:37 PM But thats how you make a qb salary cap friendly. My point is, did Bruce Allen really think Alex Smith was the QB answer for the next 4-5 years for the Redskins? An aging, decent QB whose win-loss record looks great because he played for an outstanding team like the Chiefs. IMO, Bruce panicked because people were criticizing him about the Cousins situation (justified), so he overpaid and gave a long contract to an average QB to keep the team in the .500 range. If the team plays 7-9 or 8-8 then Allen can say: "we're ALMOST there". "We're just a player or two from the next level up". That's why Bruce win-loss record sux, because he sets low goals and is happy to make it. We were 6-2 with smith and dunbar. Losing thoae two particularly killed us. You said yourself you were ok with the annualized amount, but to get that amount in a cap friendly manor you do a longer contract. Thats just how the current CBA works Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk FrenchSkin 07-30-2019, 08:19 PM The contract was written with "outs" in it. Thats how good contracts are done.
