Hey folks…So what’s your effing plan for Free Agency…who’s on your hit list? Are you going Big Splash style….you gonna let the market set itself and pick off good value? You resigning your own? Before you do anything you should probably sort rank biggest needs, look at your roster, and see whose on the market. With the draft coming, what do you attack…what you wait on?

So first Ill list my areas of need
LG
WR
Pass Rusher
Safety (2)
Lesser needs, but determine if FO keeps/cuts:
Blocking TE (Y)
Slot Corner
RB
ILB
Oline Depth
So I would certainly create some space by cutting Vernon Davis, Z Brown & Stacy McGee. I’m also not resigning Preston or Crowder.
So IMO, I honestly believe there are some outstanding values and based on our “cap crunch” and the fact the team is lame ducking with Jay and possibly (hopefully) Bruce.
LG – So there is not a big splash guy and in the draft 2-4 rounds holds around 6 strong prospects. IMO, we should address the position with a veteran presence…we simply cant wait til the draft. Quinton Spain, James Carpenter, Tom Compton (city of) are good options on short affordable deals providing starting and solid depth. I would certainly draft a Guard this draft as well.
WR – I really don’t like anybody in the group but John Brown had a great year in Baltimore and brings much needed speed. He plays outside and has previous slot experience. I really think he is head and shoulders above everyone else in the free agency group. I would check on initially and then see if after the first wave of signing he remains. I would see if a short term deal would get him here. Brown could be a great asset against Richardson injury and slot WR uncertainty. If Brown isn’t available or too much, I would closely watch Desean Jax status in Tampa to see if he would become available.
Pass Rusher – First, I’m looking at the draft for pass rusher especially in the first 2 rounds. Can we afford to punt it with til the draft with Preston leaving? NOPE. There is a lot of talent here and we have an opportunity for a good value. I’m looking for a speed rush guy…2 I like. The veteran Justin Houston who was a cap casualty and Dante Fowler Jr. With Houston, a short term, incentive deal as a pass rush specialist would help the team. I’m also gonna peak at Fowler Jr with less seriousness, but a prove it deal may work with him. He played well in the playoffs, and a 1 year deal “Preston” insurance would be great.
Safety - Welcome to the biggest market in history of free agency for Safety…guess what, we need 2. Now your big splash item Collins/Honey Badger makes sense…I like both. But Collins in coverage was terrible last year…NFL analyst said he had a 120 passer rater against him in coverage…not good. But I’m gonna list 2 here I really like…FS Tre Boston and SS Kenny Vaccaro. Tre Boston just gets it done and this year he got some notice…He a great coverage Safety who would complement the defense. He should be affordable on a short deal. Vaccaro was awesome in Tennessee last year and will be a cheaper option than Collins/Badger.
Those are my targets…value base guys who could impact the roster at postions of need.
A couple other names I really like….RB Mike Davis out of Seattle to replace AP back up Guice. I would peak at TE Maxx Williams as a Y TE to replace VD…he might be too much, but Id reach out. There are some decent Slot Corner, but I think with other holes id prioritize it less and not spend a lot.
