sevier2 12-17-2018, 01:52 PM Sitting at 7-7 with the type of season we've had calls for some credit to the head coach. I would love to see ONE year of Gruden's coaching with a healthy roster.
And as pitiful as it's been, I really believe Jay is getting more out of the offense, with less, than Manusky is getting from the defense, with more.
It's no secret that Jay's offense NEEDS a true #1 who can stretch the field. Look how the offense performed with DJAX on the team. Give him that and pray the injury bug doesn't bite AGAIN and let him finish out his contract.
Hire a new GM this year and let him decide where to go with the coaching position after "taking inventory" as somebody else posted here before.
DYoungJelly 12-17-2018, 02:02 PM Well hopefully the GM hires a coach that will fit their drafting philosophy and not hire someone and then try to adjust to that person.I get the idea and don't disagree outright but talent should trump scheme every time.
Pettibone and Dexter are great examples.
He worked the other 10 guys around Dexter, which is what good coaches do.
We have the best running back we have had since Alf or Portis (debatable for sure).
AP has experience and has had success running behind a FB for most of his career.
But Bill Callahan's scheme is a single back scheme, so we don't do it. In fact, the jags game was the first time, aside from short yardage plays, we ran a play with a FB this year. Not to mention how crappy our TE run blocking has been.
Failing to adapt quickly is the biggest negative on this coaching staff.

I agree with you here, however I don't see next year being any different. Where are we going to get that #1 WR to stretch the field?? And even if we do, we won't have a QB who can get it to him most likely. I am not a Gruden hater, but I think we've seen his peak here. Like most coaches, he'll never have "all the pieces"...and his inability to make adjustments is biggest failure.

I don't think we have seen Gruden's peak. We've seen him consistently go .500 with teams that are decimated with Injuries and (for the most part) receive no help from their defense.
I'll admit, I want to see some more wins (what fan doesn't) and the locker room stuff as of late is concerning. But damn, we just beat Jacksonville IN Jacksonville with our FOURTH string QB.
I just think we could do a lot worse than Jay. I wouldn't extend his current contract but i'd like to see him finish it out at least.
calia 12-17-2018, 04:22 PM My biggest issues with Gruden is that his teams are undisciplined and there are far too many games where they just don't show up at all. We've had several this season -- NO, Atl, NYG#2, Ind -- it's just not defensible. 4 games of flat, uninspired play. And we have way too much player drama to suit me, and that is a reflection of the coach. To be clear, it's not all on the coach -- the GM has a lot to do with it. But it isn't unrelated either. I am OK with moving on. But I agree with the sentiment that the real key is getting rid of "winning off the field" Allen. Let him go win off the field for someone else.

That is what I cant stand about Jay, the lackluster games that this team has 2-3 times a year. I don't know what it is but it seems like they just don't give a shit some weeks.

If Gruden survives and Todd Bowles gets fired in NY, I would hire him as our DC. Bowles has always been a pretty solid, aggressive DC.

The defense has been better than the Offense all season.
I don't see Manusky getting fired and Gruden keeping his job.
All signs are pointing towards another season of this bullshit.
Chico23231 12-18-2018, 12:53 PM One thing about the Defense...we are taking away the ball
25 forced TO is 5th in the league...really solid
unfortunately you have Jay Gruden and for the majority of the time Alex Smith not doing shit when given the short field.

Indicative of a good pass rush. But don't let the Jacksonville game sway anybody from the recent narrative - our defense has been shit for the last 5 or 6 weeks, and I'm not going to give them a lot of credit for shutting Jacksonville down because that's a college level offense they've got there.
Our defensive front is skilled and strong, and Tomsula knows how to coach leverage. Aside from that, Manusky himself adds no value.
If they shut down Tennessee and the Eagles then I'll believe they've actually turned it around. I doubt it very much. When we get embarrassed in these last two games the narrative will deservedly flip back to Gruden and Manusky needing to be canned.
