Dallas week Version 1SFREDSKIN 10-19-2018, 10:00 AM Great letter from a great fan: https://www.facebook.com/redskins/photos/a.10152835920289574/10156965668229574/?type=3 OmahaRedskins 10-19-2018, 10:20 AM I struggle with the Jay Gruden hate. He is highly regarded in the league as a really good coach. He may never be a Bill Parcells or Joe Gibbs, but he is well above average. Most people will say he turned around a bad situation and added stability. That alone should give him creditability. The bigger question is whether he can take the next step. When I look at the team, I say is it better now than when he arrived. The answer is "Yes". I also know the grass is greener on the other side, but I do not understand all the baby shanny love. I am sorry but he has not done shit yet. He may turn out to be a great coach, but so may Jay. Just my thoughts. CRedskinsRule 10-19-2018, 10:56 AM I struggle with the Jay Gruden hate. But generally, it's the fact that while he brought stability, he also brought very noticeable concerns. The chief of which is the team's frequent lackluster performance on the big stage. Second is questionable calls ala Andy Reid. If he wins the division and/or playoff games, then maybe he is learning as a coach. That is possible. But if we continue to be a middle of the road team, then his position at least needs to be looked at. MTK 10-19-2018, 11:26 AM The preseason snaps talk drives me a little nutty. Would Smith be noticeably better if he had twice the work? Three times? What’s the magic number? I still maintain that he got more quality work in practice vs a preseason opponent playing basic schemes with backups. The Rams pretty much sat their guys all August and it had zero impact. No they didn’t have a new QB but they had plenty of new faces around Goff. CRedskinsRule 10-19-2018, 11:35 AM The preseason snaps talk drives me a little nutty. No they didn’t have a new QB but they had plenty of new faces around Goff. It may not have made any difference, it may have. The only thing hindsight tells us is that the offense was not properly prepared for the regular season. And under Gruden, I think that has been the case every year. sevier2 10-19-2018, 11:36 AM The preseason snaps talk drives me a little nutty. Would Smith be noticeably better if he had twice the work? I think fans want something to point at and say, "That's the reason they're not playing well right there!" when the truth is there are a lot more factors that go into it. I'm not really sure why the offense isn't clicking so well right now but I accept that. Hopefully it gets better but playing more in the pre-season would not have helped as much as people like to believe. What would have happened if A. Smith go thurt in the pre-season? We'd be hearing the exact opposite calls such as, "Why are the starters in so long anyways??" Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Its' the life of an NFL head coach. Chico23231 10-19-2018, 11:49 AM Remember when Jay said "Alex Smith came here to win now?" The excuses for Alex Smith not preforming are aggravating to me. 1/3 of the season is gone folks...Jay and Alex should be clicking and we should see growth each week. Instead the passing game seems to be stalled. Enough with the excuses for Alex Smith and Jay Gruden. OmahaRedskins 10-19-2018, 01:14 PM I disagree and I think it is unfair. Reality is it takes time to find the rhythm of a passing game. To think different, it silly. I am just as frustrated as anyone but I am also excited. We are 3 - 2 with a struggling passing game that should get better as the weeks pass. I may change my mind if we go out there and pee down our leg vs Dallas. jamf 10-19-2018, 01:29 PM I struggle with the Jay Gruden hate. He is highly regarded in the league as a really good coach. He may never be a Bill Parcells or Joe Gibbs, but he is well above average. Well above average is a stretch. He is a .500 coach that coaches scared and is too soft on his players. He's also inherited a ProBowl QB and Superstar LT and still couldn't get us to 10 wins in any season. Norv Turner started out with Shuler/Frerotte at QB and retiring Jim Lachey at LT. He got us within a bad snap of the NFC Championship game with Brad Johnson at QB. I'd take Norv over Gruden. No, He isn't a well above average coach. We have more than adequate weapons...from what Im told the roster has double digits wins talent...we been ok with injuries...schedule has been fine...we are in a weak ass division...we have continuity with coaching staff...and most relevant, Alex Smith is a proven Vet. Smith hasn't played to the trade or the contract...Adrian Peterson has been the difference maker NOT Smith. I see 2 back to back bad performances and Jay Gruden flat out said yesterday, Alex is holding the ball too long. I need to see Alex Smith come out and perform at a high level this week. We paid him to win big games like New Orleans (oh buzzsaw, trap game...) on a big stage...but most importantly we paid Smith to win divisional games like Dallas at home. Coaches and the Front office chose Alex over Cousins...I need to see why. I need to see it now. |
