Yet im seemingly the only one on this board who would consider Vea anything more than a consolation prize at 13. [emoji849]

Because he can't penetrate. Allen and Ioannidis would be your nickel package DTs in pass rush situations.

He would impact the run game for sure but that's not enough if I could get James, Fitzpatrick, Roquan Smith or Edmunds instead.

He cannot penetrate if he gets double teamed. But others will in that case. Tomsula will turn this guy into a three down player in no time. He has a quick first step and the raw tools are all there. Just needs to be coached up. Until that happens ill take third and long all Sunday every Sunday. When it does happen he and Allen will anchor a ferocious front 7. Like I said he is going to be the pick unless someone nabs him first. Guys his size with his athleticism just dont come around often. Let our coaches work on his pass rushing and enjoy the show.

Remember, Vea is not the only run stopper available.

If you want to fill the NT position with a bona fide run stopper, and you acknowledge that you're going to use Allen and Ioannidis in the nickel pass rush (why wouldn't you, they were very effective last year), then you should think about these guys in the middle rounds:

Derrick Nnadi - Florida State 6'1" 317
Nathan Shepherd - Fort Mays State (D2) 6'4" 315
BJ Hill - NC State 6'3" 311
Harrison Phillips - Stanford 6'3" 307
Tim Settle - VA Tech 6'3" 329

Run stoppers in the middle of the line are very important, but not as impactful to a team overall as a stud MLB with range like Edmunds or Smith, and not nearly as impactful as rangey safeties who can flex down to cover the slot (see: Collins, Landon).

We can help our run defense without Vita Vea. There are more rounds in this draft than the 1st.

I really really wished we have gotten Hankins.

We still can. I think if we don’t get a NT in rounds 1 or 2, we’ll sign Hankins.

Vehemently disagree that he has a quick first step, that just does not show up on tape. He is often among the last out of his stance. He performed at Washington by straight up tossing dudes aside, which has value. But he has shown nothing in college leading me to believe he has a quick first step.

Could Tomsula coach him up? Sure. But so could Torrian Gray with Minkah or Derwin James.

Yes which is why I hope we trade back and take Hurst who can do BOTH penetrate and stuff the run, his health issue has been cleared but it has caused his stock to fall.

Plenty of options on the DL but watch people freak the F out if we don’t go that way tonight and declare the draft is already the worst ever

I think we all have our hopes high for tonight/this weekend.

BA can draft that is one thing you can't take away from him

I’ll just say keep in mind Ioannidis was a 5th rounder

Everything i read about this guy says he is freaky fast for 350. 5.10 40. A ton of comparisons to Haloti Ngata only more athletic. Ability to actually line up at different spots along the line. I admittedly have not watched Cooleys breakdown but my God he must have a different opinion of the skill sets this guy has than every other talking head in the business.
Anyway Im stoked for the draft and im going to stop trying to sell you guys on Vea now - finish work - buy something really delicious from the micro brew cooler - and watch us knock the first two rounds out of the park! HTTR!
Still praying that somehow we stick at 13 and trade way back into the second to pick up a third. If we have to throw in a fourth rounder in 19 im fine with that. [emoji106]
