Because of the defense and AP

I really don’t care why

The Skins aren’t the first time to use this formula

That is what kills me, the team is 6-3 and a 2 game lead on the division which NOBODY saw coming, and we are talking about a QB change.

Yeah? And Smith has been benched or replaced by rookies his entire career, and moved to 3 different teams for a reason...have you noticed the improved performance of the offenses he was replaced in??

Reid fleeced us again. He’s brilliant with quarterbacks and got Smith to look a LOT better than he really is.

Kaepernick in San Francisco regressed quickly after the season where he replaced Smith and was out of the NFL before he hit 30. Even in his magical season he replaced Smith he did most of his damage with his running. Many QBs regress after their first full season as defenses slowly expose their weaknesses. There is no guarantee that won't happen with Mahomes.

I think Mahomes is very good but his system is also VERY QB friendly, the one thing he has is a great arm and he's accurate. So I think he'll be good for years. But u are right, this happens so much. I drank the RG3 Kool-aid as most here did and look what happened.

Want to see something funny? I was looking for news on Devonta Freeman returning this year and found this gem (https://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/questions-about-the-falcons-playoff-chances-matt-ryan-when-devonta-freeman-could), just goes to show how fans are seriously retarded sometimes:

Hi, Beek! Big fan, first time contributor. Do you think Matt Ryan is the QB to get us over the hump? Despite always being paid as an elite QB, he always crumbles when put to the test. Occasionally he'll sparkle here and there, but he doesn't have the IT factor. It's even laughable when backups, second- and third-tier QBs, especially from AFC teams come to our home turf and beat us. Also, aside from Aaron Rodgers, he's winless against good QBs like Tom Brady and Ben Rothlisberger. Don't you think the over-a-decade experiment should come to an end?

Matt: You’re kidding, right? You’re seriously calling for the end of the Matt Ryan era during a season in which he’s playing as good as (if not better than) his MVP season in 2016? And how can the winningest and most successful quarterback in Falcons history be labeled an experiment? Wow, guys. That’s two back-to-back head scratchers this morning. I’m glad you’re a fan of SFTB, Eky, and glad to have you writing in, but I’m going to totally disagree with you on this one.

And relating to Matt Ryan, it took him a year to adjust to a new play caller and he's back to his MVP form this year. I'm not saying Smith = Ryan, but the fact remains it's not crazy to think Smith needs this season under his belt and can definitely improve next year in year 2 with Gruden. Adding more speed to the offense will help tremendously too.

Ask Dallas fans who hated Romo if they miss him now.... I'd take Ryan in a heartbeat

Yeah...like letting Cousins and McVay walk. We NEVER had a problem putting up yards and points on offense, it was always the defense the that was the problem. Now we have a really good defense and an idiot at QB with a coach who’s once high flying offense is now dumpster juice

So are you proposing taking a third year head coach, one that just finished his second consecutive winning season (the first time that has happened since 1996 and 1997 for the Skins) and won a divisional title and canning him to promote the OC? Don't get me wrong I would have loved to have kept McVay but if management had pulled that a. The skins lose any collateral they have been building up in the NFL coaching community pulling shit like that. b. There is no way McVay would take that knowing the exact same thing could happen to him in a few years. Basically the Skins would have lost both their HC and their OC. Could they have given him a "pay raise" position and kept him? maybe but I doubt it.

I don’t recall too many fans being upset over McVay leaving. Fans complained about his red zone play calling and doubted whether he was ready to be a HC at his age. But of course hindsight sure is 20/20.
