TheMalcolmConnection 06-02-2005, 09:55 PM No doubt about that. He is was/is one of the best in the league. I wouldn't have a problem signing him if it weren't for economical reasons and for the "havin' cake and eatin' it too" reason; meaning that we couldn't possibly sign him AND still have room for positions of need.
GoSkins! 06-02-2005, 11:26 PM everytime i try to look out for my team for some talent everyone just down plays them. all im saying is that taylor probably won't demand the high money and he can still play this game at a high level but not corner. we need to follow teams liike new england and get smart, talented veterans who wants to play for the team not themselves. he has been one of the good guys in this league who has never gotten into any trouble. i really like this dude's game.
I think that he is a good target. If Williams thinks that we need him, I'm sure that he will go after him. One thing that I have figured out over the past year is that both Gibbs and Williams both believe thier own system should work first, then they find players that fit it. They don't need the best players, just the right ones.
I think that Williams is looking for speed and blitzing ability in a saftey, a monster on the d-line, and a pure pass rushing end. We have those positions filled adequately, so we can be patient and have the money ready when we find one of the three.
TheMalcolmConnection 06-02-2005, 11:33 PM Well put GoSkins!
56FAN 06-03-2005, 09:31 AM if williams is interested, then ok.but i haven't heard anything anywhere to suggest that the man is interested. n d end or tackle upgrade would be sweet. but the cap is an issue. i think they are really looking but the main question is economic's. i just hope taylor dosen't do a hold out.
djnemo65 06-03-2005, 11:09 AM Bowen IS better than Bobby. This is a guy who is way past his prime, who was released one year into his deal after not performing, and who plays a position that we have a raft of talent at already. The old Skins would have signed him but the new fiscally responsible Gibbs led Redskins will not.
In spite of all the criticisms on this board of Snyder's profligate spending habits - legitimate to be sure - its pretty ironic that everytime some washed up bum gets released you can count on at least someone on this site to go off on why we should sign them.

sorry, was trying to edit something and must have hit quote instead...
TheMalcolmConnection 06-03-2005, 11:13 AM I like how we are starting to lay down a price and let people pick where they want to be.
jacobyfan 06-03-2005, 12:19 PM I'm tired of people dinging Bowen. There are reasons that GW puts in a 3rd corner a lot of the time and one of them is so that a safety can play close to the line or blitz if needed. Bowen is one of the most hard-nosed players on our team. You need to remember that GW is a Buddy Ryan acolyte. Buddy Ryan disdained worrying about fancy coverages and instead used fairly simple coverages and innovative blitzes to get to QBs and make them throw into those simple coverages. GW is of course more advanced than that (as are most league D corrdinators nowadays), but he has that same mentality and I'd have to say that he probably really likes Bowen's toughness and wants him on the field unless it's an obvious passing situation and he's not blitzing Bowen. Just remember that especially with Arrington and Bowen back, you don't have to worry much about deep pass coverage if the QB is on his ass or falling backwards. I simply prefer to have a defense chock full of guys who will knock you the f*ck out. Just imagine if Barrow comes back at full speed and Rodgers picks up on the mentality of GW. EVERYONE at LB and DB would basically be a headhunter.
As far as BobbyT, I think he'd be nice to have at nickel in case someone gets hurt.

I agree completley about Bowen. I'm a huge Bowen fan, and he has blown a few plays and is not amazing in coverage. However, he is a hard nosed type guy, and I was really excited to see what he would do last season after he started out strong. Its ashame he got hurt. I expect some good things from him this season.
jacobyfan 06-03-2005, 01:29 PM I'm glad someone else will speak up that Bowen isn't that bad. Also remember Bowen's last full year we had George Edwards coaching the defense and EVERYONE got burned MOST of the time. He's not stellar in pass coverage, agreed. However, I think that with GW pulling the strings, he can be better than a lot of you seem to think. To sum it up, the LBs and CBs (if healthy)
Washington - will knock you the f*ck out
Barrow - will knock you the f*ck out
Arrington - might kill you
Springs - will knock you the f*ck out
Bowen - will knock you the f*ck out
Taylor - might kill you
Rodgers - ? (will probably at least make a tackle, he did at Auburn)
It's hard not to like that. Most other fans only dream that their defense would be as hard-nosed and aggressive as ours is. If the offense can simply get off the ground, (read: rank 20th or so) we are a very scary opponent.
