NC_Skins 02-12-2018, 05:50 PM I waited until now to vote. I hit yes I do approve of the trade. We got a fair comparison in QB play to Cousins without having the break the bank. Signing Cousins to a mega contract would have been a huge mistake in my opinion. I do not think Cousins is worth 28-31mil/yr. Not even close.
HailGreen28 02-12-2018, 08:13 PM well . . . first . . . "its not about the money" . . . complete lie . . . thats all its about with him.
then, i want to be a redskin for life . . . he has said that . . . said he hopes to be here . . . told players he looked forward to playing with them next year . . . then doesn't even negotiate or talk to the team . . . he has zero clue how much the redskins would have been willing to offer . . . in negotiations the team should always start low . . .then you get a counter . . . that counter never occurred to see what they really would have paid him . . . had he, and they countered his counter with a fair deal and he didn't take it he would have lost credibility . . . so he didn't counter and all the fans see was the initial offer . . . which OF COURSE is going to be low as thats how negotiations work
First, show me where Kirk actually said: "It's not about the money". Not just a click-bait title to an article where he didn't actually say it. Listen to the interview in question.
Second, we know how much Cousins and his agent offered to play per year for the Skins in 2015: $19.5 mil. Allen and Snyder turned it down.
That convoluted mess you imagine contract negotiations between the Skins FO and Cousins to be.... where the onus is on Cousins... pure fantasy.
Here's an account of the negotiations in preseason 2017.

Seems to jibe with what else I've read, would love MTK, Scheed, others weigh on this story. TL-DR: Sure looks to me like the SKins FO lowballed Kirk again.
the truth would be . . . i can't stand ownership, front office, team, etc. and want to move onto another team that will pay me tons of money . . . i hate the way i was treated . . . etc. etc. etc. . . . but he never said anything close to that . . . no, all he ever said was i would love to be here . . . we are moving in the right direction and i look forward to playing her next year . . . all BULLSHIT
and another thing . . . he claims GOD told him to do this, to do that . . . that is BS too . . . he cannot be the uber perfect religious boy and then go tell lie after lie . . . it just doesn't work that way
So not trashing the team he's on, and negotiating with, even complimenting them, is "BULLSHIT"?
Lmao, Cousins took the high road, unlike Allen if you agree with the link I posted. Cousins should be complimented for that.
Again, when did Cousins lie? A player can want to be on a team while not wanting to play for less than market value.
skinsfan69 02-13-2018, 08:42 AM It's water under the bridge at this point. I was listening to 106.7 yesterday and Smith said that "he's jacked to be here." To me that was very refreshing to hear. We finally have a guy who wants to play here.
I’m so exhausted by this blame game people want to play. Shit didn’t work out, both sides have to share some blame. Time to move on. Smith is our QB.
skinsfaninok 02-13-2018, 09:52 AM On to Smith, was Scot with the niners when he was drafted? I thought Scot was the one that selected him right?

Yes Smith is a McC guy

Then we all should be sold! lol

Yop, so what about this Cooley Film Breakdown of our new QB Alex Smith ?!
http://cdn.stationcaster.com/stations/wtem/media/mpeg/02_12_18_Cooley___Kevin_HR_4-1518451131.mp3
Long story short:
-Negatives: less good of a pocket passer than Kirk, tends to escape the pocket early... but does so trying to take shots down the field. Also less effective than Kirk in the medium range passing game.
-Positives: very effective in the short AND long passing game. Very accurate down the field. Likes to take shots on 50/50 balls. Better athlete than Kirk.
And most of all: DOESN'T THROW PICKS!
He had 5 picks all year, none of them in the redzone. Cooley broke them all down: 1 tipped ball, 2 do or die throws that he forced (on 4th down and late in a game when it was their last chance) and 2 bad throws.
If we can adjust our offense to Alex's strengths, we'll be juuust fine!

You referenced the offer from back in the summer, where Bruce only offered $53M guaranteed and Cousins said nah, I will play on the tag.
I have no problem with Bruce starting the negotiations at that spot. If Cousins wanted to be a Redskin he would have countered. He never countered.
Airing that out in the media, with the statement that Bruce made, was probably tasteless. But approaching negotiations that way is exactly what I want my executive to do. And if the player doesn't even bother to counter? Definitely don't think he's the leader for me long term.
Cousins just wanted out. Chris Thompson said it - he sent mixed messages. Is that who you want leading your team? Mixed messages from your captain?
Onward. He wasn't the guy for us. We've got to accept that he didn't want it, no matter what Allen did.
