The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

Why would KC want his new team to give up valuable picks for him?
If KC is tagged, he will play out the year and become a true unrestricted FA next year which is what he wants.
I don’t necessarily think he wants to leave but he does want the most money he can get and being and UFA is the best way to go about that.
34M next season is not a deterrent.

Well, look at this, the Eagles don't have a 2nd and 3rd this year, although if they trade Foles away, they could possibly regain at least one of those picks. I don't think Kirk would really think about a team giving up picks for him as much as what type of contract they are offering.

I don't think Kirk necessarily wants to leave either, but he wants the most "guaranteed" money, because he equates guaranteed money with security. That's why he's OK with continuing to sign those guaranteed one year deals. He's trying to pioneer a change with how NFL contracts are structured.

I just feel, in my humble opinion, there is a good chance of a tag and trade, because as much as I think the Redskins do like Kirk Cousins, they've repeatedly been slammed in the media and around the league with how they've handled contract negotiations, and I would be shocked if they're able to get Kirk to agree to a LTD contract right away - in which another opinion on that is - if Kirk is going to sign a LTD with the Redskins, it should be done quickly. There is absolutely no reason to string it along until any deadlines. The longer you don't hear about an agreement, the more likely he walks out right or gets tagged. I just don't see why it would be logical to think the Redskins are just fine tagging him and paying him another big one year deal and not a LTD. I just think there is something already worked out with a trade partner who feels all they need is a quarterback to compete, and I honestly think it's Denver.

Another tag is just delaying the inevitable and it’s hard to imagine another team giving up picks in addition to signing him to a monster deal. It’s not like he’s Aaron Rodgers or something. Worst case he walks and we get a compensatory pick, we draft or trade for another QB. The world won’t end if he’s not our starter next season.

What gets me is the overall ineptness of our Front Office in this situation. We drafted Kirk as a backup. He grew into a really good starting QB. He became our guy, the only starting QB caliber player on our team. And the Front Office can't even hold on to him? They didn't see this situation coming, as it was developing? We could have penciled in a good starting QB in our lineup for years, cheaply, from within our own team. Something other teams would love to have the luxury of doing. Instead, the Front Office jerks him around with tag after tag, (overpaying him in the process so if anyone should be mad at the Front Office it's the fans wanting us to build a good team under the cap lol), creating all this uncertainty inside the team and outside tag year after tag year. And for what? So we can let Kirk go in his prime?

tl,dr: Fate basically gift-wrapped a franchise QB to us, and our Front Office couldn't handle the situation.

Yeah as I have said, I hope he is back but if not, o well. On to a new guy and I trust Jay to have a good QB or at least productive one, as we said look at his track record.

You know the old saying, hindsight is 20/20. Mike Shanahan knew right away what the Redskins would have in Kirk Cousins, and that's why he lobbied to draft Cousins. Had the FO listened to Shanahan, the Redskins would've never given up those picks for RGIII, Cousins would've been the guy, we would've gotten him wrapped up on a LTD years ago, much cheaper, and the team would've been in much better shape. Not trying to be a mark for Shanahan, but just starting to see that the more you look at this contract situation with Cousins, the more you see that what Shanahan was saying and doing wasn't wrong.

Anyway, only thing I know is, it's going to be an interesting offseason.

Redskins were 'quarterback focused' at the Senior Bowl | NBC Sports Washington (http://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/redskins-were-quarterback-focused-senior-bowl)

More non-news. Of course they were QB heavy due to the uncertainty at the position.

O well, it is something we will have to deal with until something happens. I'm fine with a Rookie QB taking over if it's Mayfield or Allen.

What team doesn’t look closely at the most important spot on the field.

The media is going to be playing this up until something happens with Cousins.

Do the Redskins trade picks with the Giants?

I don't think so but you never know.
