Offense: Biggest Questions Going Into Camp

Lets Talk Some Offense

My Biggest Questions going into Camp and then the Season:

1. Can we run the ball more effectively?

Drafting Perrine, Fat Rob the #1...transitioning away from Jones. Gruden calling the plays as well....all this factors into what I consider a major weakness which didn't get a lot of talk last year. When we run the ball we win. Can we do it more consistently and more importantly...more effectively. We improve the Red Zone offense when we can run the ball and attack it with more balance.

2. Can Pryor and Doctson replace DJax and Garon at WR?

My head said yes, but a lot of questions here. First how healthy is Doctson? Can he stay on the field? Also, when I hear about Crowder moving to the outside it causes me to speculate Doctson isn't trending in the right direction. T Pryor...he is doing all the right things this offseason. Expectations are high...can he be that deep threat we need?

3. The impact of losing McVay as O-Cord, how big? Gruden is now primary playcaller.

I think we will know relatively soon. My feeling, don't care about McVay gone, think he was overrated. I like Gruden stepping into playcalling duties...think it will elevate the offense.

4. Will KC sign a long term deal?

The lack of the run was always a bit of a misconception to me. We went with the run less because our offense relied on a first down passing attack. That simply leads to less runs. I do like what I see in Perrine, but I don't think any back will be a superstar here simply because we use the run as a complimentary piece first. Now if JG changes his historical trends like Gibbs did, then maybe we see a more balanced attack, but seeing as how we waited for Perrine, I don't see a change happening.

I love our receiving corp right now.

I wonder how JG actually feels about taking over the offense again. Does the fact that they didn't hire a new OC mean that he's more on the hook for KC's success. I don't think our new DC can step in and handle the game side enough to relieve Gruden of any game time defensive responsibilities, so I could see our offense suffering just from the pressures placed on Gruden in close games.

4. Will KC sign a long term deal?

yes. maybe here maybe not, maybe in 2019, not 2018 (if we FT him again), but eventually, yes I do believe he will sign a long term deal somewhere.

(what if he did walk away from the game in 2019 after playing out a FT next year. It would be the ultimate Sports Mike Drop moment... 76mill and boom!)

There was this one stat though about our record when running the ball and our record when we didn't ... we do need to be able to run the ball more consistently to win more games.

I think we will be able to do that mainly because of playcalling and Perine.

I might be overly confident about Pryor... but I love the guy, watched a few Browns games from last year, and I was impressed.

BTW NFL network talked about him signing here in their top 50 need to know stories entering this season. I know... NFL network... But it shows expectations are really high. And I think they're gonna be met and then some!

I think when you have a WR with Jackson's speed you can pass on first down because of how concerned the safeties had to be with him. I think we'll find the defenses aren't quite as stretched this year, and the staff knows they'll need a battering ram to soften them a bit.

And that doesn't even speak to the red zone. Everything works better around the 5 when the LBs' first step has to be forward instead of backward.

This scares me a bit. I've been a big Doctson fan since we drafted him. Would hate that he's either "injury-prone" or will be one of those players who just doesn't latch on in the NFL (Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas). Granted, it's still early. But your point has made me think a bit.

Crowder getting more PT is a good thing, dude deserves it until Doctson proves otherwise.

true, but who plays slot? Maybe we move to less slot set more double TEs?

I don't know and Crowder has earned a shot...but that's a first round pick. Doctson needs to step up. Im worried he might get hurt during the physical this week.

I am wondering if our tendencies to go away from the run in previous years was more on McVay than it was Gruden? I hope Gruden does call a more balanced offensive attack.
