From San Francisco Chronicle columnist Glenn Dickey (himself a longtime observer of the Raiders):
Who's the pick?: Pro Football Weekly has joined the debate over the Raiders' choice in the second position in the NFL Draft by guessing Miami tight end Kellen Winslow will be their choice. The same issue says that Winslow and Iowa offensive tackle Robert Gallery are the two top players in the draft, though not necessarily in that order. I think one of those two is a more likely choice than a quarterback, wide receiver or Miami safety Sean Taylor.
As Norv Turner is the new coach of the Raiders, he may well look at Kellen Winslow and see the ideal H-back.

what you fail to misunderstand it is not norv's decision, it's al davis's decision. he will pick who he thinks is best for the raiders no matter how stupid the pick is.

The Raiders have serious needs all over the spectrum. If they think a stud tight end is the way to fix their problems, then the AFC West is going to be a three team division.

First of all, I don't predict they will pick Winslow, but it is a real possibility. Al Davis and Norv Turner have a real affinity for one another. Davis has allowed Turner to choose his own staff. Davis and Turner have a great old time talking football. I don't think we should be shocked if Turner likes Winslow and that Davis agrees. Davis also saw first hand what Winslow Sr did to the Raiders many years ago, playing them twice a year.
The Raiders have a huge need for a wide receiver, however - Tim Brown is going to be gone and Jerry Rice is at best a #2. Jerry Porter is not a #1 receiver. I thought they would draft Larry Fitzgerald. It is eyebrow raising that Glenn Dickey, who has followed the Raiders since the 1960's, and is one of the top columnists in the country, thinks they will go with either Winslow or - let's hope - Robert Gallery.

They would be stupid to pick him, if they did the whole draft board would get tossed up and all kinds of trades would happen. Who knows what would happen with Winslow taken that early.

The Raiders are just trying to get trade talk started. Thay want to know the value of their pick, before they decide if they use it or trade down.
I am not taking anything away from Winslow, but Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Williams, Eli Manning, Robert Gallery and Sean Taylor are all rated higher.
Anyone with half a brain would trade down if you have the Raiders pick and you want Winslow. Plus you get extra picks and you don't have to pay Winslow as much money.

It might help the Skins with the cap having Winslow or Taylor. They will both want big paychecks but their positions will keep the numbers a little lower. Roy Williams has a heft paycheck though, and Tony got a decent one. Ed Reed and Shockey dont make that much becuase of where they were drafted
The Raiders have a bunch of needs, how about a QB to take over for the 70 year old Rich Gannon?

The raiders would take Fitzgerald before a QB. Expecially if Mike Willams gets a good 40 time. hes been at soem special conditioning camp in Atlanda working out for the last wto months. Dont be surprised if Roy Williams jumps up either.

My thought's exactly, if they want winslow, by all mean's! But QB as well as WR are much more pressing need's, I would be shocked if they passed up on 1 of the QB's, or one of the WR's, If thier smart they will think long term here but a TE who isn't rated that high, over a QB who is rated that high? Sound's like smoke and mirror's to me.
