Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag

It doesn't make sense to compare Cousins to recent deals signed by Carr, Luck, Newton, Wilson, whoever.

The leverage drives it. Either it's really about money, or he wants out.

Well he would have made more guaranteed money than those guys, so he just wants out. How do you negotiate with someone who doesn't want to be on your team?

5 yrs, approx 24-25 M per year, 53-71M guaranteed .... that is what I thought Cousins wanted.

Im struggling to understand how that is not a good deal for Cousins. I guess the argument is that he making guaranteed 24M this year plus 28M next year on a transition tag .... so that equals 52M guaranteed over 2 years with no long term commitment vs the offer of 53 guaranteed over 5 years of team control.

He will be 29 when this season starts, 30 next year. Plus he is one major injury away from being damaged goods.

So what did Cousins want?

26M per year?

Not play for the Skins and Gruden? The neophite head coach who put his neck on the chopping block to make Kirk the starter 2 years ago?

Too much for me to absorb and process.

KC obviously wants out. My question is why?

How do I even enjoy winning when the guy that plays qb doesn't even want to be on the team. I don't want him here next year. I'd rather lose with Colt or Nate than win with a guy that will use winning with our great offense to get paid more by someone else or force us to transition tag him and have some team that offer a loaded contact that really hamstrungs us.

We're in this position because Cousins doesn't want to be here period. The team's mistake was to not trade him when they could have. But oh well, here's to one good year (hopefully).

Why would he want to be here? The team's GM keeps lowballing him. It was insulting at the start, and that might be the reason he declined the latest decent offer. I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if he wanted out at this point. And of course he'd be happy to play out the year, he's getting paid 44 mil for 2 years of football, and when he hits FA next year some team (likely SF) is gonna give him a deal that makes the 44 mil look like chump change.

We seem to be forgetting about supply and demand here. Ya'll think just because we found this diamond in the rough it means we can just conjure up another one since we apparently aren't satisfied with this one.

That was a reasonable offer. (I actually had that as my guess for Sunday signing amount earlier in this thread) Schneed, he could have had 73 million guaranteed for injury. If he suffers a major knee blowout, then he gets this 24million and then whatever else. I don't think the Skins made an unreasonable offer, or one that should get scorn tossed at Allen. Clearly KC stuck his foot in the ground and wants to wait for next season.

At this point, I just want the Skins to have an outstanding season and let the chips fall where they may.

Sunday
6 years 150m total value, 85 injury guaranted, 53.5mil fully guaranteed
(fully guaranteed = FT this year + transition tag amount next year +750K base each year, injury covers 3 full years)

I don't see how Cousins signs anything less.

I also think the deafening silence is very good news. If it was not happening, I believe that Cousins camp would be letting teams know the Skins numbers weren't to his liking.
Here was my prediction. I don't see how KC didn't sign BA's quoted numbers. Must be nice to feel no need to lock in 70+million dollars.

At this point, who's fault it is doesn't matter. He doesn't want to be here and we should try to trade him and hope Colt can stay healthy for a year and Sudfeld takes a leap in his 2nd year. I don't want a lame duck qb leading our team.

I don't know if he wants to play here or not. Maybe he really wants to stay but he believes waiting until next season will drive the price tag up so high that signing right now doesn't make any sense. Maybe he just wants out. The one thing I do know, is that he's the Redskins QB next season so I hope he lights it up and takes us back to the playoffs. If he does that, the Redskins can opt to blow him away with a contract offer or let him walk. I'm just glad I held off on buying a Cousins jersey.

What was he locked in at last year and then this year and the team has said they would do it next year that is what almost 32/34 million?just saying that is a hell of a lot of money .
