So what do you think about Mike Jones and Mike Silver saying it was a smear campaign? Supposedly Silver spoke wit McC. I'm sure drinking was also involved after seeing those bright red cheeks photo.
Well, I think it was a smear campaign in the sense that they took advantage of someone with a known problem and let it drag out and in many ways enabled it in order to expose him as the fall guy. They didn't provide help during the season, they didn't do anything when Cooley said what he said. They didn't protect him by being proactive about his absence from the combine.
I fully understand the vitriol towards Allen and Snyder. But I don't get why that necessitates that we defend McCloughan. Guys, he was fired from San Fran for drinking. He was fired from Seattle for drinking. And he was clearly drinking again here (if the photos don't tell you that then let me just say I'm glad you're nowhere near the healthcare profession).
He had to go. Remember when Doctson hurt his Achilles and McC punched the wall and busted up his hand? Can you have a drunk around the office losing control of himself like that in a building full of administrative assistants, other scouts, etc? Obviously not.
Is this solely about McC drinking? Absolutely not. Allen's ego plays a major role. The primary role, even. But it doesn't matter. You can't be drunk and volatile on the job. He's batting 1.000 on getting fired this way, it's a no brainer.
Time to look forward. At this point my concern is that Jay needs to be in charge of the draft room.
Bingo.

The one constant we heard from McCloughan to his agent to Redskins officials was "Don't worry, I'll (he'll) be at the combine." Agents started calling reporters and a couple of reporters called me "Where's Scot? The rest of the team is here" And that's when the rest of the commotion started.
Did he not show up on his own accord or was he told not to come?

Doesn't really matter anymore, the deed is done. Question should now be do they hire a new GM or just let Bruce do everything like before. Idiots needed to trade Cousins as him asking to be traded let the cat out of the bag that he didn't want to be here. With PG and DJax gone, might as well get an extra first round pick out of the deal. Hard to cheer for a guy that you know would rather be elsewhere.

That's what I'm saying...doesn't smell right. This is something that seems like would have been news. Washington media and shit stains like florio would have put this out if this was true imo.
Who cares at this point. The outcome was rather obvious as this crap has been going on for a couple weeks. There was a difference of opinion and Scot hung himself with the booze, just like his last two gigs. When the wifey tweeted that bit about the rings, including her wedding band, that told me that a lot of it was indeed personal. I hope the guy gets his life together and gets sober at this point. To be honest, I think he was a bit overhyped. This past draft really was mediocre, and if Doctson turns into Taylor Jacobs 2.0, then it would have sucked. Dwelling over a done deed is a waste of time. The handling of Kirk has been terrible. I just don't see him with us past 2017, and we might only get a 3rd rounder for him, when we could have had an additional first rounder this year. Too much bad blood out there now. Should just blow it up and get a new youngster.

I am torn. Was he consistently drinking or drunk on the job. He should be fired.
Was the ensuing pressure from the public enough that Bruce and Danny knew it was time to act? Even if the reasons weren't completely anove board?

Probably was indeed a power struggle of sorts, but the drinking had to be an issue

Never got a clear answer. From what I gather he left Redskins Park on his own. And then was told not to bother coming to the combine. But that wasn't a last minute decision. He and the team knew for about a week that he wouldn't be at the combine. Even though they kept telling everyone he would

Wondering if the last 18 months were a disaster, as Bruce is saying, was it indeed Bruce that has made the decisions? If so, they haven't been awful. ( minus the KC stuff, but that is complicated too) Is Bruce actually getting a bad rap??
