ESPN saying 3.5 (http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18659530/washington-redskins-center-kory-lichtensteiger-announces-retirement). Either way, I think this is a move beneficial to both team and player. I wish him good fortune in wherever he goes after this.

They forgot about the impact of moving a player back into the top 51.

Kory himself saves us $3.5M, but the rule is during the offseason you have to count the top 51 contracts on your roster as your cap number. When you remove a guy from the top 51, someone has to go in his spot. A minimum salary type guy.

So Kory saves us $3.5, but we use $0.5 of it on a min salary player moving into our top 51 to replace him.

I should've known better than to doubt you Schneed.

It's alright. They're journalists. Accounting and financial analysis isn't their strong suit.

On the flip side I probably couldn't write three articles a day without letting a fucking cuss word slip in there. We all have our strengths.

Best of luck to Kory. He played a tough position in a tough game.

There's a couple of decent C's coming out (Pocic & Elflein). Would love to land one of them.

Any idea why he decided to hang it up? Any details from the local DC media? It is nice he gave us more cap space, but it means we have to draft an offensive linemen or acquire a FA on the cheap end.

KL saved his money, his body is beat up, and there is not a big demand for a back-up center

Probably because he's 31 and has been pretty banged up as of late. He had a good career, time to wrap it up.

He was going to be cut, 100%, and he knew it. He also knew he would command a small salary on the open market once there. I am sure that factored.

Read his quote: when I approached Bruce and Scot with my thoughts after the season they were very graceful in permitting me to retire a Redskin.

Translation: they were going to cut him and all of them knew it. They agreed to hang onto him until he filed retirement paperwork.

Everybody knew it was over, the Redskins, Kory, and the league. Life goes on. He's easily replaceable.
