CRedskinsRule 01-23-2017, 11:10 AM Greg Manusky: The man behind the Colts defense (http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2014/10/23/colts-defensive-coordinator-greg-manusky/17792389/)
You can put puff pieces up all you want. After 3 years of bad DC's, and terrible defenses, Gruden (and SM) should have gone above and beyond to pull in a top tier DC. Whether Manusky makes it or not isn't the question. The question is not will he succeed, the question is based on all empirical evidence was he the best candidate for the job. And the answer to that is a resounding no.
His group didn't excel beyond their abilities (in fact they barely played up to theirs). And his past stints as DC didn't produce elite or even top 10 outputs. Others that were looked at could answer yes to both those questions.
As a Skins fan, yes I hope he succeeds, and yes I hope we infuse top talent, which makes the DC's job easier. But no, as an NFL observer, he was not the right man for the job, not even close.
FlyerSkin 01-23-2017, 11:23 AM When you say shit like "we will likely have another qb" despite there being 0 credibility towards that "fact" besides your own delusions, I make my own conclusions. The worst part of your statement is the fact I agree, if Manusky somehow keeps our defense average or god forbid even worse next season despite the incoming talent infusion (literally Scott knows he has 1 fucking job this offseason, it's priorities 1, 2, and 3) then there's a good chance our entire staff gets canned instead of just his weak ass d-coordinator.
Besides, extensions don't mean shit. They are just meant to reassure the person who receives them. Forgotten McNabb? He was benched like two weeks after getting his extension in 2010. Go ask Ryan Grigson if that extension that he got last year is working out for him now.
You do not know what will go down with
Cousins either. What if San Francisco offers him over 25 million? There are a ton of desperate teams out there. Are we going to break the bank for a guy who doesn't handle pressure too well? I want Kirk resigned, but not at an inflated price. Also, you have no idea what Kirk is thinking. He might want a change of scenery for all we know.

from the article:
Tomsula was out of football over the past year following his firing by the 49ers. He had served as DL coach for eight years, including four with Manusky as the team’s defensive coordinator. It was a frustrating time as the 49ers had talented players on defense, but the unit could not put it all together.
Yay... (not really)
SkinsGuru 01-23-2017, 01:09 PM Hiring Manusky is like spending hours online looking at restaurants to go to, then just saying fuck it, and making a TV dinner.
i've done this way too many times . . . lol

This is pretty much my feelings as well. I don't believe Manusky was the best candidate for the job. I believe the top two candidates didn't want to come here. Otherwise, there would have been no reason to interview other guys before making up your mind on Pettine or Bradley. Their resume of past success is all the 'skins brass needed to make a judgment on if either two were right for the DC position. Instead, they promoted from within, a guy - while beloved by the team - does not have a resume that suggests he can improve the defense.
I will fully support Greg Manusky and hope he can turn the defense around, but I don't like the hire.
SkinsGuru 01-23-2017, 01:30 PM maybe SM figures he needs one or two more years to get good players for the defense and then if stuff still doesn't work he can fire the coaching staff and lure Harbaugh from MI . . . worked in San Fran, why not here? lol
SkinsGuru 01-23-2017, 01:41 PM Write up from the WashingtonPost (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/football-insider/wp/2017/01/23/a-closer-look-at-what-greg-manuskys-redskins-defense-might-look-like/) about Manusky . . .
Fans might not feel enthusiastic about promoting from within after the defense struggled over the past two seasons under Barry. But Manusky has a more aggressive mind-set and should be willing to blitz more than Barry did. Simply blitzing more won’t solve all of Washington’s problems; clearly the team needs an influx of talent on defense, but that aggressive intent should help get more pressure on opposing quarterbacks who, at times last year, had all day in the pocket to find an open receiver.
I do like the fact that he is more aggressive both with blitzes and with coverages . . . we have had aggressive coverages in a long time . . . hopefully that means no more 10 year cushions on 3rd and short!!

Good article, thanks for sharing. Our focus should b on the secondary coach right now. eff everything else
Buffalo Bob 01-23-2017, 02:41 PM I hate this fucking move. I hope I am proved wrong.
After Haslett and Barry there is no where to go but up, be optimistic!
