jamf 03-01-2017, 12:29 AM Yes! Rodgers will probably get $35m a year when it's his turn. FrenchSkin 03-01-2017, 03:30 AM I completely agree and this is how I see it going. I think the team is either a) playing this as poorly as possible (Snyder is meddling and doesn't want him) or b) playing this as absolutely perfectly as possible by not budging an inch until July 15 when they will have waited out Kirk's leverage and then come up with a reasonable deal as you suggest. I still think it's B. Agreed. What would you say the choice of the exclusive tag is telling us on the will of the team to keep or trade KC, as opposed to choosing the non-exclusive tag? Right now, without a lot of time to think about it, I kind of see it as a sign they would want to negotiate a long term deal: -they don't want him to approach and be approached by many teams and get crazy offers that turn his head upside down, they want him to be here, to still consider himself a Redskin (even if it's because he doesn't have a choice), -maybe they also want to have the upper hand to work out a trade with the niners or another team, BUT had they trading KC as the first option in their mind, the non-exclusive tag would have been a better option, let KC work several teams, and statistically increase your chances one would actually want to give up 2 first rounders! Any way we most probably won't know until July 15th if they played it perfectly or screwed it all the way. rickmmrr 03-01-2017, 09:22 AM I’m thrilled about this move. We know we have Kirk for at least one more year. I lot can happen in a year. Winning changes everything. Now if we can keep either Jackson or Garcon, and Doctson makes it onto the field and contributes. We fix some holes in the defense, and the new defensive coordinator is more aggressive. That should put us in a position to do better than we did last season. And hell I didn’t even mention Jordan Reed. He’s the fu-#%$-en man. I’m excited. MTK 03-01-2017, 09:23 AM I think the exclusive tag was all about the team trying to keep leverage. Allowing him to talk to teams would likely only drive up the price. Irrefutable 03-01-2017, 09:35 AM JP Finlay says the real deadline for a long term deal is the day of the draft. Good point, if they cannot get a long term deal they must trade KC. And find another QB to compete with Colt for the job. If KC plays the season under the tag, he is gone and they get nothing. (except a compensatory pick). A tag in 2018 would be $30+ million metalskins 03-01-2017, 09:43 AM I don't necessarily believe a word Bruce Allen says, but if he happens to be telling the truth that the Redskins have no plans whatsoever in trading Kirk Cousins, then the exclusive tag just reassures us that he's a Redskin for 2017. After that? Who knows? What I'm hoping for is some sort of deal where the brunt of the money happens toward the tail end of the contract so that we're able to get some defensive guys signed and at least Garcon or Jackson. CRedskinsRule 03-01-2017, 09:44 AM so you want to pay KC more than Aaron Rodgers ? https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/ Assuming he plays on the tag this year, we already have paid him 44Million in guaranteed cash. At this point only Andrew Luck and Aaron Rodgers had more in their current contracts. At some point it's about getting a deal in place and saying we have this position finished and done. You can't give him less, it just doesn't work that way with the timing of his rookie contract and the franchise tag policy in place. Ideally he would take a long term pay that recognizes he's already locked in a tremendous amount of cash, but he is treating it like a business and he is crushing it. Skinsfanatic 03-01-2017, 09:47 AM so you want to pay KC more than Aaron Rodgers ? https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/ Yes. I also want to pay Pierre Garcon more than Jerry Rice. New Rice Contract Worth $32 Million - latimes (http://articles.latimes.com/1996-08-29/sports/sp-38600_1_jerry-rice) Crazy huh? CRedskinsRule 03-01-2017, 10:04 AM JP Finlay says the real deadline for a long term deal is the day of the draft. Good point, if they cannot get a long term deal they must trade KC. And find another QB to compete with Colt for the job. If KC plays the season under the tag, he is gone and they get nothing. (except a compensatory pick). A tag in 2018 would be $30+ million I think I read the 2018 transition tag would be just under 30, but would give us right of first refusal. That is likely what will happen if he doesn't sign long term this year. SmootSmack 03-01-2017, 10:43 AM I think the exclusive tag was all about the team trying to keep leverage. Allowing him to talk to teams would likely only drive up the price. Right, what little leverage they have. Yesterday's news doesn't really change much in my opinion. Slightly reduces chance he gets traded but I still think that's most likely. As far as a transition tag next year, highly doubtful |
