Kirk Cousins 365 thread

Thanks for posting this video. I think Willie McGinest is 100% correct. He stated the case for Kirk eloquently and succinctly.

FWIW, here's where I stand on the issue:

- Both Kirk Cousins and Jay Gruden must be retained and extended.

- Anything other than a long-term deal for Kirk would be plain stupid on the part of the Redskins. They need to get this done.

- Kirk continues to get better in this offensive system, yet there still seems to be some doubt about Jay Gruden being retained past this season. That is utterly preposterous. Jay Gruden has done a very good job. He must be extended so that his system can be retained and perfected by the on-field leader of this team, Kirk Cousins.

It is so easy to envision what this team can become if Dan Snyder keeps the same QB and HC in place that I'd like to think even Dan Snyder couldn't f*** this up.

I said earlier (while we were still looking for a DC), that to send a good message to potential coaching candidates as well as to the team, the Redskins brass needs to go ahead and extend Jay Gruden's contract. They could arrange the extension to where there's an out if need be, but it sends a message that they're keeping the group together and feel like it's building to something special. There are times that I think Jay Gruden has screwed up situational football, but there are other teams when I feel he displays that "gunslinger" mentality in his coaching and is going to be aggressive, because that's what it takes to win the game. Such as going back to the first game against the Giants. He coached very aggressive in that game, because well, if you're going to go 0-3, might as well go down swinging. He wound up winning that game which got the 'skins on a 4 game winning streak. So, I think overall, Gruden needs to stay and needs to be extended.

Having said all of that. Same approach with Cousins. While I think it's highly likely they tag him, I really think they need to sign him to a long term deal and be done with it. I think they also need to try their best to keep both Garcon and Jackson.

.@KirkCousins8 had a career year in 2016. The QB is primed to be a @PFF Top 101 player next season.

Someone i believe already posted the link earlier, but in case not, here we go. Looks like we are trying as hard as we can to mess up the Cousins situation.

Here is an article that says we may not even begin negotiations at the Franchise tag price. No way Kirk accepts that after making a higher salary last season:

Don't expect Redskins to offer top QB market price to Kirk Cousins, analyst says | CSN Mid-Atlantic (http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/washington-redskins/dont-expect-redskins-offer-top-qb-market-price-kirk-cousins-analyst-says)

This one basically says there is now rumored "resistance" (AKA DAN SNYDER) on giving Cousins the tag, and suggests the skins might just be content letting Kirk test Free Agency. (Translation: He's gone)

Go ask the Cards, the Lions, and the Browns if waiting for the right qb is working out for them. I think you are forgetting football is a team sport, you can win a SB with a great team and a decent qb. We don't need Kirk to be the next Brady, which it seems is what you're asking for. You're also forgetting that those teams in the 80's played in a very different NFL than today. The rules today are geared towards higher scoring offenses which demand at minimum above-average qb play. Kirk has shown he can do that. Quit trying to blame the entire Giants game on him, the entire team looked bad that day.

dude . . . you guys are the one saying he had a bad game because of contract pressure . . . not me . . . all i said was he had a bad game period . . . and that IF you guys are correct, then he is not a good fit at QB

That article says nothing of the sort. In fact it says:

The issue here is that letting Cousins test free agency doesn’t seem like an optimal idea. With what will likely be north of $100 million to spend in free agency, the San Francisco 49ers could make it hard for Washington to retain cousins.

You're putting your own spin on this. And what the hell is sportsnaut anyway?

As for the Andrew Brandt interview I heard him discussing the same thing live on Tues morning with Ross Tucker. He basically said the team could offer him in the range of $21m or $22m per year, and he expects Kirk would probably take it. The team has all the leverage right now. Why take $24m for one year when you can have probably at least 2-3 times that in guaranteed money with a long term deal?

I didn't say he had a bad game because of contract pressure, I mentioned that was a theory. Big difference. Do I know if it is true or not? I have no idea. And I'm definitely not in the "he can't win big games camp" because that's a lot of nonsense. I'm firmly in the "pay the guy so we can fix the real holes" camp.

You've never heard of sportsnaut, that new sports juggernaut? It's all the rage baby.

I think there is positive mojo between the skins and kc. I bet we hear a done deal announcement by next Thursday so the skins can prep for free agency.
