Like I said before, if there was some sort of trade with Phillip Rivers, I would consider that. I know we'd only have Rivers for a few seasons, but he's a proven franchise quarterback who (I believe) doesn't want to play in LA. Other than that, I really hate the idea of starting Colt McCoy or Nate S. Colt is a solid backup, but I don't believe is starting material. Either way, we'd see Nate in there before the season is over with.

Either the front office is playing this so genius that none of us can see it, or they're going to wind up playing it stupidly. I'd like to think we're past the Vinny Cerrato days and that the 'skins are merely waiting until closer to the deadline to cry uncle and give Cousins what he wants.

We haven't, but we certainly have tried forever. The closest to where we are now might have been Trent Green (he rejected 4 year 12M, and the next year took 4yr 17M. crazy that 20 years later we are looking at 24M for 1 yr, now that's wage inflation) Anyways, that's why we aren't going to let KC go.

Yes, it is incredible how much money NFL teams will pay for a QB now. My head won't explode but I may throw up - and I usually side with the players on money matters.

It's just terrible what a huge QB contract can do to a team's salary cap.

Do you think the fact that in 2016 Cousins was still auditioning for a long term contract, it had an impact on the games where he kind of choked. And if the answer is yes, then would signing him to a long term deal have the added bonus of allowing him to settle down and relax so he can just do his job.

I'm an arm chair psycho, so I'll give it a try. Kirk hinted that not having a deal kept him from performing at his best. To me, that is simply a poor excuse. He has my permission to relax and just do his job with or without a long-term contract. WTF is he whining about when he just got paid twenty freakin' million dollars for one season's work? It's like he's saying "Poor me, I'm only set up financially for one lifetime. I'm so worried that I won't get a contract with a $40M guarantee that will set me up for three lifetimes that I can hardly focus on my job." What a crock!

If anything, that kind of attitude, or excuse, makes him look like he lacks focus and mental toughness, which would make him exactly the type of QB I wouldn't want to sign to a long-term deal. Oh, I want him to be re-signed but I also want him to act like a man and stop whining and making far-fetched excuses for his inconsistent play. If he is a true competitor, then he doesn't need tens of millions more dollars so he can relax and continue striving to get better. He'll get more big money this season regardless of what he does but he shouldn't act as if worrying about the money has anything to do with his being able to improve his performance.

I didn't blame Cousins inability to relax and play at his best on the lack of a long-term contract. He did.

I'll grant you that he may be upset that he doesn't have the full support of management by now.

I hate whining by anybody, especially multi-millionaires. So, whatever his reasons for being upset he can keep it to himself, as far as I'm concerned. It's business. He's holding all the cards and he doesn't even seem to know it. He should be thinking "If Snyder doesn't want me, then f*** him! I'll go elsewhere, make just as much money, and light up the little bastard's team whenever I play them." That's how grown men handle business matters.
