My bad for getting the long-term deal part wrong. Still, how stupid would it be to Franchise Tag Cousins again? We've gone over the Franchise Tag pros and cons, so I won't get into that but I think the decision this season will be binary, i.e. "Do we sign him to a long term deal or trade him?". There are no other reasonable options, IMHO. MTK 02-03-2017, 04:25 PM My bad for getting the long-term deal part wrong. I don't see the point in tagging him again either, it will only escalate his price or he walks away for nothing once we can't use the tag anymore. But you can't say it's off the table as an option. MTK 02-03-2017, 05:26 PM Bruce Allen says Redskins decision makers support Kirk Cousins | CSN Mid-Atlantic (http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/washington-redskins/bruce-allen-says-redskins-decision-makers-support-kirk-cousins?utm_content=bufferc998a&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer) Per Rich Tandler: Is this Cousins deal really going to happen? You always have to be wary of anything coming out of Redskins Park. But by my count Bruce Allen has expressed confidence that the team will get a long-term deal done with Cousins three times now. Once on SiriusXM NFL Radio, once at the Senior Bowl with JP Finlay and now here on ESPN 980. This seems to have a different vibe than last year, when everyone seemed to be resigned to Cousins playing on the tag. I checked my saved notes and I've racked my memory, I don't recall one instance of the team president coming out and saying that he was sure that there will be a long-term deal. That's a significant difference. That doesn't mean that a deal is inevitable. From the sound of things negotiations are in the early stages if they've started at all. It's not at all clear if Allen intends to get a deal done by the March 1 franchise tag deadline or by the July 15 deadline for a tagged player to reach a deal. There is a long way to go. But the vibe seems to be there and that's something that never seemed to be present a year ago. Schneed10 02-03-2017, 05:36 PM It's all part of the dance. KI Skins Fan 02-03-2017, 06:21 PM I don't see the point in tagging him again either, it will only escalate his price or he walks away for nothing once we can't use the tag anymore. But you can't say it's off the table as an option. I said it wasn't a reasonable option which, of course, doesn't preclude Redskins management from doing something stupid. I don't think Redskins management is stupid and so I concluded that the only two options that make sense are a long-term contract or a trade. SFREDSKIN 02-03-2017, 09:24 PM With all the cap space money, one alternative is to give him a nice chunk of guaranteed $$$ and break the rest of the $$$ into future years. I don't like it, but it could be an alternative, I'm sure they will figure it out. sdskinsfan2001 02-05-2017, 08:05 PM Man, I'm so glad I backed out of making an opinion till there is an actual announcement on this thread. Mock drafting is way more relaxing. diehardskin2982 02-05-2017, 10:16 PM If Cousins intends to be paid like the #1 QB in the league, he will be non-exclusively tagged. They are willing to pay him but it won't be outrageous. So it's up to both sides to meet in the middle. Meks 02-05-2017, 10:27 PM Hows cousins in madden? He should be paid what he's worth give im a 7 year max out contract so we don't lose.cap space 😂😂 |
