As many stupid things that this organization has done in the past, I really don't think they let Cousins go without having something huge in return. We can now say Kirk Cousins in a Pro Bowl quarterback. He's clearly the best QB this team has had in years. For the Redskins to let Cousins go would be asinine. I would almost bet anything you hear in the media about Cousins going to the 49ers or the Redskins brass having spats with Cousins is purely speculation created in order to help build Kirk's marketability. It's either created by his agent or someone else wanting to sabotage any deal the 'skins might try to lay out on the table for KC.
Even if it's true that Scot McCloughan or Dan Snyder don't care for Cousins (and I really find that hard to believe to be honest), I don't think either are dumb enough to think Cousins is expendable at this point.

If I were in charge of the skins I make an offer of around 22mm per year for 5/6 years 75mm guaranteed. If he does not take that then put the non exclusive franchise tag on him and let him test the market and set a price for us, if that comes back too high then let him walk and collect two first rounder's (hopefully from SF), then take the best Defensive prospect available and Deshaun Watson on #17 and let there be an open competition with him and Colt in the preseason.

Cousins is not taking $22M/yr at this point. That ship sailed last year. Hell, even last year, I don't think Cousins takes $22M/year. His tag number is going to be $24M - so that is where the baseline of negotiations start. I would not doubt if we don't hear about Cousins getting around $27M/yr and around $60M guaranteed. I would think if he settles on $25M/yr, then they need to hand him a pen and be done with it.

Cousins aint going anywhere!! and On the SLIM chance he does think about the pressure that will be on who makes the draft pick(s) that we get in exchange. If we get Say 2 number ones and both don't end up being all world out of the gate then somebody looks very stupid and remember our number one last year is looking not so great..I say they sign Cousins!

I think you sign him before FT even is tendered. Even if that means a 25-26million average per year over 6 years, with 65 guaranteed.
a few points:
1) if you tag him, he now knows next years tag is 33million. That's even more outlandish than 24 million
2) if you let him test the market, some team will make a crazy offer (when is the last time a Pro Bowl/record setting qb hit free agency in the prime of his career?)
3) yes 25mill is high this year, but likely the cap hit would be 19-21million, more than doable with 65Million in space. and going forward his cap hit will decline as a percentage of the cap (assuming its continued growth). Think about Aaron Rodgers, Could anyone sign him now for what GB signed him for what he was signed for in 2013/14. No way.
4) d***it I just want the Skins qb situation to be a done deal with a competent qb. Is that too much to ask???????

Yeah, at this point, I don't think it's rocket science. You sign Kirk Cousins to a long term deal as soon as you can. No need to get cute with slapping the non-exclusive on him, and slapping the FT on him again would just give Cousins and his agent incentive to wait until the end of next year to get an enormous contract that may not work into the Redskins budget at that point. In a few years, $25M/yr will seem like chicken feed. (I can't believe I just said that! Phew!)
Round and round we go. Think I'll ask the girl making my next burrito at Chipotle what she thinks of all this. I'll let you guys know.

I would be surprised if Watson falls to 17th. I think IF we get SF's first round pick...I would go with Watson at 2 and there will still be good defensive prospects available at 17. To me, if this happens....Watson is the only proven QB in the draft compared to the other two projected first rounders.

I'll ask all the strippers this weekend. I'm sure they will clue me in. Hopefully it corroborates with what my Uber drivers to and fro say.
