The Washington Redskins on Friday signed nose tackle Phil Taylor to an offseason contract.

A first-round pick out of Baylor in 2011, Taylor spent the first four years of his career with the Cleveland Browns. He was out of the league in 2015, then spent the offseason with Denver before suffering a knee injury in training camp. Taylor was released from the Broncos’ injured reserve list on Aug. 10. The Redskins hosted him for a workout in Week 6, but he was not offered a contract.

The 6-foot-3, 335-pound Taylor, a Clinton, Md., native, had his best NFL season in 2011 when he recorded 59 tackles and four sacks.

The Redskins also signed linebackers Khairi Fortt and Pete Robertson to contracts.

The Saints drafted Fortt, a D.C. native, out of Cal in the fourth round of the 2014 draft. He suffere an injury in the preseason and after a stint on the short-term injured reserve list, Fortt was waived. He spent time with Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Seattle of the course of the last three seasons, appearing in three games.

Robertson was an undrafted free agent of the Seahawks last season, but he hasn’t appeared in a game.

Also...

The Redskins announced Thursday that they have signed safety Earl Wolff to a reserve/future contract. Wolff was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars with an injury designation because of a hamstring injury he suffered in the preseason opener.

Wolff, 27, was a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and played 18 games over two seasons. The North Carolina State product posted 52 combined tackles, one interception and six passes defended.

Wolff was the victim of an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in February that occurred in his hometown, Fayetteville, N.C. He left the situation unharmed and wrote about his experience in August.

Washington has now signed 10 players to future/reserve contracts.

Re: Phil Taylor - No problem with this, but I'd like to see how many 330+ lbs NT make it back from two years of major knee injuries to do anything with their careers.. I'm glad to start collecting bodies for camp, but hoping to get a primetime draft pick or FA in their prime to revive our DLine.

Guy was a baller, but that healthy part is the key phrase. Hopefully it works out but I'm not making him the starter and Golston the backup lol.

Often injured and well traveled in a relatively short time. This is 2017, not 2016. Giving guys another chance is cool, but will these guys be any type of upgrade? Even for depth? Does this also mean the 3-4 is here for the foreseeable future?

reportedly they worked Taylor out in October and did not sign him. I doubt he weighs less than 350 lbs

Taylor is my pick for NFL's 2017 Red Baller Alert Comeback Player of the Year. If he can produce, that would be so awesome for our team.
