Correct, but Gus Bradley is part of the club. Worked under Jon Gruden in Tampa from '06 - '08, and left to become Seattle's D coordinator in '09 when Gruden was let go from Tampa.
Gus Bradley was defensive quality control coach for Monte Kiffin in 2006, and then took over coaching the linebackers in 2007 when none other than Joe Barry left to become the coordinator of the Lions.
That period of course overlapped with Jay Gruden's time in Tampa, when he was an offensive assistant.
And then in 2009 when Bradley joined the Seahawks as the defensive coordinator from 2009 - 2012, that period overlapped with Scot McCloughan's tenure in Seattle, when he was a personnel executive there supporting Jon Schneider from 2010 - 2014.
Guaranteed Bradley is the top D coordinator target. Redskins One will be fueled up the moment our season ends.
I like Bradley, so I hope your prophecy becomes true. We could certainly do a lot worse than him.

From what I've read Bradley fielded horrid defenses early on in his tenure I'm Sea because he had no talent to work with. It wasn't until his units were stacked with perennial players that he started to look like a defensive guru. If he comes here and still has the same players that Coach Barry has the D will not fare that much better.
That being said The Jags defense is rated very high this season so when Gus does have talent he can do a little something something. Barry has never had that chance. Each defense he over saw had a litany of jabronis that were out of the leauge in year. When he was The Chargers LB coach his unit was the strength of the D and his players spoke very highly of him.
I definitely don't think Barry was dealt a great hand in personnel this year, but this kind of overlooks the fact that we're a worse defense this year by all measures despite adding Josh Norman and changing very little else.
We're allowing more 3rd down conversions this year than we did last year. The conversion rate we're allowing on 3rd downs is among the worst rates in league history, let alone worst in the NFL this year.
It wasn't that bad last year, so why'd it get worse? Good coaches make at least a little bit of lemonade out of lemons. I just can't point to an area where Barry has made an improvement year over year, it's just not happening.

Their whole premise is that if he isn't resigned he'll be on the market? Weak. I'd love to have him but they are basically saying Elway might just not resign the architect of the sole reason they have a good team.

Well, they inferred that Denver might be inclined to let him walk because they have an assistant they like for the job

I have always liked really successful NFL coordinators that were so successful they were given a head coaching job. Failed as head coach and are back to being successful coordinators, where they belong.
Wade Phillips and Norv Turner come to mind.
Excellent and qualified coordinators, not made to be head coach.
I really do not want us to waste time with young, unproven, inexperienced and not yet successful coordinators.
I do not care the Wade Phillips and Norv Turner are considered old. I consider it a good thing. The best coaches I ever had the privilege to be coached by were older guys that have a ton of experience.
I do like our current offensive and defensive coordinators. They are helping, they are part of the problem.

The article mentions they like his assistants, but doesn't specifically single one out as being ready for the job. That's why I felt it was weak. It kinda dances between "they couldn't come to a contract agreement last offseason" and "he's got good assistants that they like." I don't think either is a good enough reason to let Phillips walk.
Either way, if they do let Phillips walk, I'd snatch him up in a heartbeat. But we already had our chance once, and I'm not sure but I don't think he falls in the "Tampa North" thing we do.
