calia 12-20-2016, 10:50 PM Playoffs? Playoffs? I am just hoping we can win a damn game. Playoffs. (Sorry, had to channel my Jim Mora there).
Seriously, after that dispiriting effort last night, we should just be hoping to see a competitive team on Saturday (thanks for the very short week, NFL). We got manhandled by the Panthers -- absolutely pushed around in our own house. It was embarrassing. Stewart just ran right through our defense -- that was some of the worst tackling I can recall.
If they do not come out and stick it to the Bears -- in the first quarter -- it's going to be really hard to stomach.

To get in with two wins, we need GB to lose one OR Detroit lose two, PLUS Tampa lose one OR Atlanta lose two
There are some scenarios where we get in with another loss but they're not worth exploring (http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine/_/factor/wins/results/400874513~1~400874523~2~400874540~1~400874643~2~40 0874606~1~400874635~2~400874632~1~400874631~2~4008 74534~2~400874637~1) :Flush:
CRedskinsRule 12-23-2016, 01:43 PM it's been 3 weeks of other teams not doing the Skins any favors, and the Skins not taking charge of it. I don't expect that to change. Skins cynic prediction for the weekend:
Detroit over Dallas, Dallas rests its starters in the second half
GB over Minnesota
TB over NO
Atlanta over Carolina
We of course will blow out Chicago on Saturday, building our hope over the weekend for the monday night result.
FlyerSkin 12-23-2016, 03:14 PM We are not a big box office draw as a result of our lack of killer extinct. Also, with so many more complete teams in the hunt, we are in trouble! !!!

that is really my only issue with Gruden. I don't think he has a killer instinct bone in his body.

MNF just puts the NFC North more into play. We now have a
Giants team that has something to play for! We had everything to play for against
Carolina and blew it. We didn't even show up, so
I am not that optimistic about our chances.
Not sure how you guys are defining killer instinct but Gruden has never been afraid to gamble by going for it on 4th or a surprise onside kick.
skinsfan69 12-23-2016, 04:24 PM This team is limping towards the finish line. If we were somehow able to make the playoffs it would be one and done. With 10 draft picks, cap space and some luck with Doctson and Galette, I'd expect a much better and deeper team next year.

I think there is a difference between a coach who is a clever and successful gambler, and a coach with a killer instinct.
Gruden is definitely willing to be gutsy and gamble - I like that about him. But in terms of a killer instinct, I define that a lot by how you play with a lead. Will you settle for a FG when a TD seals the game, will you go in at half taking a knee or will you push a drive that puts you up 2 scores. Other than one or two games (GB being one) we won't often go for a kill shot when the opportunity arises.
A secondary part is how you play in preseason - and I am not saying preseason means squat, it doesn't - but you can tell some thing's about a coaching mentality, and Gruden's - imo - is passive more often then aggressive.
Coaches can win without what I am calling a killer instinct, and I like Gruden for a whole lot of reasons. But he never will be a coach that goes for a TD when a FG puts your lead to 6, or takes that deep shot in the second quarter when you are up by 14.

A team that can pin its ears back and do what needs to be done to take care of business is killer instinct. Gruden isn't the target of my rants, but these players just seem on the border of apathy at the very time they need to put the hammer down. They do not come across as a team that deserves a playoff spot.
