Yet a short throw into the endzone is what really cost us. Kirk hits there and we win - without the deep ball. We are 3-1 without the deep ball being prevalent. Of course I want to see him hitting long short medium - etc. as far as stretching the field DJax is going to do that anyway.
I think our running game has been fairly effective last couple weeks without the deep ball. Its all about moving the chains. Bottom line. Kirk will connect on the deep ball plenty over the course of this season. Like Matty pointed out there were to PI calls on deep balls. That is as good as a catch. Cousins is just absolutely not the problem right now. Nor is the offense. We need Preston Smith, Kerrigan, Murphy to get some serious heat on opposing qb's. if we can muster that we can win plenty of games with our current offense doing exactly what it is doing.
The biggest thing we're lacking right now is a big push in the middle and we likely won't get it until next year. Look what Philly is doing with ONE elite player. Their LB corps isn't that great, but their defense is what, top three?

Agreed 1000%. This is why we need our olb's to step it up big time. Not saying edge rushers are a bigger problem than beef in the middle. However they are the bigger solution simply by default. We are going to get gashed up the middle on the run. I see no solution with the current roster for this - so....we disrupt their passing game. Put up 30 points and you can somewhat lessen the blow of getting gashed by the run because we are going to force teams to go to the air - if - big if - we can put pressure on the qb and disrupt their passing game.

I think we'll have a better game against the run this week. If you look at the metrics, the Browns offensive line is superior to the Ravens in run blocking. Yanda is their only beast. Personally, I'd love to get Spaight in there and just have him attack downhill.

I have given up all hope of having a good game against the run. For two years now we have been turning journeymen running backs into hall of famers on a weekly basis. I swear if a team just ran it up the middle on every play they would beat us. Slow the game, keep our offense off of it, and gash us into a slow painful death. Lol.

An opposing team's running game won't matter if the defense continues to get takeaways and our offense takes advantage off those opportunities like in the last game.
Our offense has the ability to outscore most teams, add to that the takeaways by the offense, and our team can win games this way.

Stopping the run, and qb pressure are the pillars of any good defense. Turnovers are just a bonus, you cannot game plan on winning the turnover battle.

The defense is banged up and they are going to give up a lot of yards. But they will cause turnovers and every now and then will have key stops. We're not going to have a good defense for the rest of the season and that is a reality.
But we have a defense that will do enough (i.e. turnovers) to allow our best unit (the offense) to win games.

Hope you are correct sir. Just remember that Eli has a habit of turning over the ball and well the Browns are cursed.
The ironic thing is that we tried so hard to strip the ball last week that we forgot to tackle. It almost cost us the game. So again - just be fundamentally sound and hope the deflections and drops bounce our way. Dont go into a game thinking you are going to give up chunks of yardage but it doesn't matter because were gonna get the ball before they score. Lol
