The DL and OLB are very average. When you cannot stop the run or rush the passer, mediocre is the best you can hope for.

The Redskins needed DL help and got none... no help at safety. It is a myth there is good talent on defense, or good coaching.

and the ILB"s are worse than the OLB's, hence why everyone runs up the middle on us . . . fix the damn middle of the defense!!

Have we seen much of a Kerrigan/Murphy package? With Smith not lighting it up, I wonder how that would look considering Murphy has been doing really well with that extra weight. I know he lost some, but he still looks huge.

I think the key is getting all three of them on the field in nickel situations.

One thing I'm going to throw out there as a glimmer of hope for our team, in general. I think our depth is better than most NFL teams. The further you go into the season the more injuries and the more you have to dip into your bench, even bring guys up from the practice squad to play a role.

We have a few impact guys, and we'd like our starters to be better in a couple spots. But the depth on the offensive line, at WR, and in the secondary is very good.

You never know, it's depth like this that can help you pull out a game you weren't supposed to win.

I'll focus on the negatives:

Shitty tackling (lack of)
Lack of a run D up the middle (pathetic)
Josh Norman 1st half
Cousins holding onto the ball again resulting in a sack and not taking advantage of the turnover.
Where was Djax?
Brutton
Getting tired of Barry not adjusting (if we would have lost, I would have fired his ass and promote Fewell or Manusky as DC)

I agree with most everything except for the criticism of Djax, his play resulted in almost 80 yard worth of PI and at least the first one would have been a catch and touchdown. It doesn't show on the stats sheet but he was huge and needs to be resigned long term.

Saying that we can't win the East makes no sense to me, it all comes down to our division games. We still get the Cowboys and Giants once more each, and we still have the Eagles twice.

Eagles look pretty good but I think it's a matter of time until someone exposes their horizontal passing game, all the screens and short out routes. A team with real corners is going to get up in their face and bring the safeties into the box and dare weak ass Agholor and Dorial Green Beckham to win. The defense is fierce, though.

We had Dallas routed if not for the 3 missed TD passes by Cousins. He's playing better now.

And the battle with the Giants was so close, we forced the turnovers when we needed to. We can beat them again, especially at home.

Don't get down, there's lots of time remaining.

I agree 100%. BUT I am concerned about the defense. If the turnovers don't keep coming, then the team is in trouble...That being said, if the offense continues to improve, and they are able to score a higher percentage of TDs compared to FGs in the red zone, then they have a chance to hang with just about anybody.

How about that NFC East by the way - one quarter of the season is in the books, and it's the only division that does not have a team with a losing record. Is the NFC East back or is it too early to tell?

Wasn't it Kirk coming to start his first every game and throwing an early interception only to bounce back and beat the browns what spurred our 2012 run, lets do that again!

That's kind of how I look at it. Think about the things that are sustainable, and what isn't. Is this line blocking well, and does it figure to continue? I think so. Are the receivers getting open and do they figure to continue? I think so. Is Cousins delivering on time and on target? First two games no, but against NYG and Cleveland he's been back to his normal self, which includes the once-per-game brain fart but otherwise on point.

The defense probably will not take the ball away at this rate. But I also don't think they'll tackle this poorly again, and I don't think they'll continue to give up 3rd downs at a 57% clip (NFL average is 37% and the next worst behind the Redskins is the Lions at 47%).

I do think our division is much better than it's given credit for, I've thought that all along. There was a lot of improvement in the offseason.

BTW, let's hear it for Coach Kotwica. Special teams has been very good this year -- our PK and P are as good as any in the league, coverage has improved over last year, and Crowder has helped our return game tremendously.

These are the number of 3rd down conversions allowed per game. Note the bolded. With small sample sizes like this, any statistical observation is bound to revert towards the mean, at least somewhat.

We'll get better on 3rd down defense, and the Eagles will begin to get exposed a bit more often. I expect a tight race between all 4 teams coming down the stretch.
