los panda 09-19-2016, 11:43 AM I guess. But at this point how can you project that this staff will ever outfox a playoff team?
Just ask yourself: the Redskins are in the playoffs, they're playing Green Bay or Minnesota or Carolina or Arizona. Do you think Jay Gruden and his staff have it in them to out-gameplan and outcoach any of these staffs:
- Bruce Arians and the Cardinals
- Mike McCarthy and the Pack
- Ron Rivera and the Panthers
- Mike Zimmer and the Vikes
I can't see it happening. They're too reactionary, never ahead of the other team.
it's hard to envision but it's not impossible. still very early in the season, plenty of time to figure out how to best utilize the pieces we have.

I feel like the team simply doesn't have the coaching structure nor any kind of coaching IQ, a consistent QB or defensive push to be a competitive team. Watching the Skins is like watching a team playing to not lose rather than aiming to win. Just an all around disaster. Scotty has put some pieces in place and the Redskins are completely squandering it. i.e. Bruton is great in the box and complete dog shit in coverage. Why not use Cravens? Garcon hasn't done anything worthwhile in a bit, put Doc in and Etc.
Seriously what do the Skins need to happen for then to be consistent? This whole, "we win the NFC East one year and then the next year we're playing like monkeys flinging poo at each other" thing needs to stop and it's been like this for as long as I can remember. When was the last time we made it into the playoffs 2 years in a row?
Chief X_Phackter 09-19-2016, 12:06 PM Made plays when they needed to?! With the game on the line they let the Cowboys drive 80 yds down the field for the win. Talk about coming up small when they were needed. This team isnt going anywhere with a D that made a rookie QB and RB look like All Pros.
Ok, I'll admit "when they needed to" was probably a stretch. My point is this loss wasn't on the D. That drive is to potentially tie the game if KC hits Doctson in stride (and the game probably isn't close if he hits Crowder and DJax earlier on). The defense made plays, forced fumbles, knocked the ball out of the receivers hands, got 'some' pressure/sacks...this defense isn't going to stop anyone all the time, but it was good enough to win on Sunday if the offense had made more plays.

Sure they forced a few fumbles and incomplete passess but they gave up 27 points. 7 of which came on an 80 yard game winning drive by the Cowboys.
Could the O have played better and scored more points, absolutely. They aren't blameless in this loss but they did score 23 points which was enough to win in 10 of yesterday's games. The offense was good enough, the D was not.

I strongly disagree on this point. We know our defense has problems and our offense has a lot of weapons. We needed to win this game on offense but our QB, who is a big part of the offense, did not play well. Kirk was the key to winning the game and he blew it.

1991-1992 and 1992-1993 seasons. The end of Gibbs 1.0.

In the micro view of yesterday's game, the blame lays primarily at the feet of Cousins simply because he missed three easy throws for TDs. But I get what you're saying from the long view standpoint.
Cousins and the offense have to be completely on point for this team to win. It was there for him to win the game yesterday, that's why I primarily blame Cousins. But the defense continues to be the unit that's completely non-contributory. There's not enough pass rush, they're not stout enough at the point of attack, the defensive game planning is crap, the inability to adjust is killing us, and aside from Norman there is nobody making exceptional plays consistently enough. The talent level is no better than average overall, and the coaching staff isn't elevating their talent with scheme and planning.
It's a completely dead-weight unit. The way it looks to me, the games we win the rest of the way will have been in spite of our defense, never because of it.

KC did blow it, if they do anything besides a turnover the Skins win.
So an elite team like Pgh puts up 38 on the Skins D and a not so elite team like Dallas puts up 27 on the Skins D. That means depending on who they are playing the Skins have to score 30+ to have a shot at winning. Good luck with that.

Well, yeah. That's the depressing situation for Skins fans right now.
PorkSkins 09-19-2016, 02:13 PM I am sorry, but you are better than this BS post. Cousins is the starter all year. Breeland is not total garbage and you are not cutting him. Gruden is not getting canned this year. We would have to go 2 - 14 before he gets canned.
I do not know why i punish myself by coming on here after a loss.
I understand you, Omaha.
Unfortunately, I punish myself by coming to the boards after a loss. Then, I avoid the boards for several days, so I won't have to witness foolish and over-the-top posts.
There is another Redskins fan board where I venture (basically, I only go to this one and the one I mentioned), and I had to avoid it all last week due to handful of posters. It's typically a good board with many, intelligent Redskins fans. But, it doesn't take many to bring down a board.
Two of the posters on that particular board have been typing verbose and repetitive rhetoric, and continues to speak in absolutes. It's very annoying, and it seems they are almost more concerned about looking right, per their predicted Redskins failures, than the Redskins turning things around this season.
This could very, well end up being a crappy season, but I'm gonna withhold judgement for another week or two.
