Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

I am a KC supporter and believe in his smarts, work ethic, and strong, accurate throwing. But I am deeply shaken by his inability to perform well under pressure. I think this is not only true in big games, but also in within games, meaning when we get into the red zone. Pressure makes some players (and all the great players) better. Kirk tightens up under pressure. So you can aggregate all his stats and decide to be impressed, but success in this league means succeeding in increasingly more high-pressure situations leading into and through the playoffs.

I love watching our team now on 3rd and 6 in the 2nd quarter of a game in the middle of the season against an average team. Kirk looks scary good completing a 20 yard pass to Crowder or Reed. But I am rapidly losing confidence in his ability to do that when we have to win against a Dallas or NYG. He doesn't have the killer instinct. He doesn't improvise under pressure. He crumbles.

Maybe he needs some killer-instinct guys around him to help rev up the energy level of the team. But seeing how badly he plays in must-win games is deeply troubling.

Very sad, but very true.

Over reaction Monday bro. Calm down. No chance colt McCoy plays better yesterday. Folks around the league and former QBs, (favre, bradshaw, dilfer) etc have all said KC is a franchise QB. If we let him walk that could set us back a long time.

LOL I am calm,I'm not one of the ones screaming dont resign him.And to say no chance Colt plays better is purely speculation on your part, just as it was on mine.I think everyone agrees Kirk did not play well yesterday.2 bad picks and no es-capability out of the pocket. To say Colt couldnt have come in and and did better than throwing 2 costly picks and only putting 10 points on the board is not unrealistic on my part.
But again, let me reiterate,I am not calling on Colt to be the starter.I do think Colt can handle the pressure of a big game better and to think he could have not done better yesterday is not unrealistic.

Best QB play in 20 years here except one year out of RG3. A few things one must look at the Redskin running game is erratic and has a habit of being non existent from time to time. We all know about how unreliable the defense is. Those are things that put extra pressure on a QB and gives an advantage to the opponent's defense knowing the Redskins have to throw, even in the red zone. You have a QB who threw for just short of 5,000 yards and a 97 rating.
Combine that with a weak college QB class and Colin Kaepernick being one of the better NFL free agent QBs (he will opt out of his contract)and one must think anyone thinking of letting Kirk walk is completely insane.

If they still don't trust Kirk franchise him for $24 mil and pick up a QB next year as a few of this year's underclassmen might be worth a 2nd-3rd round shot next year.

the biggest disappointment I have with KC is two fold.....

1) he gets rattled & can't seem to shake it for the whole game
2) he threw that last INT off his back foot- the same silly shit he did last year

So, if it those things haven't gotten better, why give him a long term raise?

It will be interesting to see where the coaches weigh in...is Kirk successful because of his talents or is he successful because they've set him up to be?

Colt McCoy & Sudfeld can miss the playoffs for us for a whole lot less than paying choke-boy a king's ransom.

That may be the only way to go. I'd offer him 20x5 with some carefully tailored provisions, but I don't think he would take it. It will take us at least another year to get a good feel for whether a replacement is in the wings. Meantime, work like hell on the defense this OS and give careful thought to tagging KC again.

It's not indifference it's called looking at the big picture and his entire body of work, and not just cherry picking his down performances.

It's also looking at what else is out there and knowing just how hard it is to find a quality QB.

Also, cap room is not going to be an issue. So pay the guy and lock up the most important spot on the field, and let's move on to fixing the D.

It's not a black and white thing. To say that this loss shouldn't affect your opinion of him - even overall - is indifference to me.

... to refuse to look at this performance to evaluate him is, in a sense, a form of denial.

The contract situation seemed to be distracting him the whole season.

I'll keep saying it. My solution will make everyone happy- sign Cousins to a long-term deal with an eye towards trading him if you find another qb that you think can take his place.
... what about this would make anyone unhappy? ... give or take or few little minor details
