Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread

Conflicting reports now on if redskins are going to use tag at all:

Washington won’t decide on Kirk Cousins until after the season ends | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/11/27/washington-wont-decide-on-kirk-cousins-until-after-the-season-ends/)

Albert Breer says skins don't know what they are going to do, and won't look at the situation until after the season.

LaCanfora and others still say the skins already have plans to lock up Cousins to keep him off the open market:

Redskins Won’t Let Kirk Cousins Walk After Season « CBS DC (http://washington.cbslocal.com/2016/11/28/redskins-kirk-cousins-after-season/)

So if Cousins gets tagged the second time, does that mean that in 2018, the starting point for his negotiations would be 24 million?

But why tag him, if you are ok with the fact that you paid him ~20M this year, ~24M next year, how bad would he have to play not to sign him to a long term deal. Sign him to a 6 year deal, guarantee him along the lines of Andrew Luck's contract - Per PFT Luck received $87 million in injury guarantees of which $47 million is fully guaranteed at signing.

I would say he should have even more fully guaranteed at signing. And be happy that we have a long term answer.

If you tag him in 2017, you set yourself up for a terrible negotiation in 2018. Either a 34M franchise tag, or a long term deal with 34M as a base.

He's earned the long term deal, and he'll get it.

Definitely and it's going to cost even more now. That 18-19/mil a year deal went to 22-24mil/yr. I fully expect that deal to start at 50mil guaranteed and be an average of 23-24mil/yr.

Ranking:

2nd in yards
5th in completion %
6th in QB rating
9th in TDs

He's going to get paid. If Flacco is making 22mil/yr, you can believe that's the starting point with it ending at Luck at 24.5mil/yr.

Flacco is a SB winning QB who doesn't have the weapons that KC does. He played a big part in some playoff games on the road. Plus the SB. Not trying to undermine what KC is doing, he's been impressive. But Flacco delivered when it mattered most. In the end maybe that's what Redskins management might be looking at. He's going to have play at this current level in the post season.

Flacco also had a top tier defense. Just sayin...
I wouldn't trade for Flacco young or old. No way.

Forget Flacco the number Cousins will be looking at is Luck's deal and working up from there.

3 years of the franchise tag would average over $25M so you can bet that's what they will be looking at.

As long as it leaves us with plenty of money to take care of our other needs I'm alright with it.
