FrenchSkin 11-08-2016, 08:39 AM Tell me if I'm missing something, but from what I understand we have more cap space than we've had for the past few years (16M this year, around 53 as of now for next year), so why are we so scared to pay KC? Do we really have a better (or even just slightly worse) option at a better price?
I mean this is not Madden, unless you have a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodger (the real one not his twin brother playing for him this year) caliber guy, you don't just change QB and yyypppeee your team is better. It takes time for the new guy to get in rhythm with his teammates, for his teammates to get in rhythm with him, and for both sides to trust the other.

Cap won't be an issue, and I definitely agree that starting over at the most important position would be beyond silly and unnecessary.
Chico23231 11-08-2016, 09:22 AM Way the season is going in Atlanta, Lil Shanny is gonna be a top coaching candidate. I think it was Keim or Mike Jones the other day said this....If we let Cousins hit free agency then he gonna go where Kyle is period.

I was listening to Cooley and Kevin halfway mark show, and they agreed that the team should sign KC to a long term deal asap, because the more they wait the more they will have to pay. I was thinking the team might want to wait until the end of season, as a way to keep KC under pressure... But they got a point saying the more they wait the more they'll have to pay, don't they?

You wait til the season is over to ensure he doesn't bomb the tough second half or have a catastrophic injury. IMO its better to wait with QB.
Pretty sure under the tag he has to play out the season, they can't negotiate a new deal until the offseason.
punch it in 11-08-2016, 10:02 AM Counterpoint: Snake, don't go away. If you left the ecosystem of the forums would go out of whack and this place would go dull with all manner of like-minded rational people agreeing on various subjects. Imagine this discussion happening every single day:
Person 1: Kirk is a decent quarterback. He will make mistakes, but his good plays will be enough to balance it out. Let's pay him above-average quarterback money long term so we can focus on other holes on the roster.
Person 2: I agree.
Person 3: I am in agreement as well.
Person 4: It seems we're all in agreement. Toodle-loo!
DAE see how dull and boring that is? Save us Snake! I come here for a mixture of solid discussion and entertainment. And you are a big part of that.
I agree. Lol
Sometimes thoughts get lost in translation. Unless it is Schneed - there really isn't more than one way to read most of his posts. "You are a dumb asshole" is very straight forward". Lol.
I am not defending SS either. Just saying that I do not believe he thinks Colt is better than Cousins. I do not believe anyone does. Not on here anyway.
SS appears to be searching for a way that we can save 15 mill to bolster our D, and let a run of the mill qb like Hoyer or Colt hold the fort down until we find another Cousins. Problem is we have Cousins! We can still improve the rest of the team through the draft, and just good old fashioned continuity and familiarity. SS is going backwards instead of forwards. It is a habit that we have formed as Skins fans watching the organization do just that for 20 years. We have something building here. Let it grow!

Yeah, it seems like we don't allow ourselves to consider our team a good team. Some mistakes aren't helping us do that, but we have one of the top offenses in the league right now, let's believe in this team, it will develop and become a really good team, the answer is there, not outside the team.

Correct. Can't begin negotiating until after the Super Bowl.
Schneed10 11-08-2016, 01:30 PM On next year's cap, currently it looks like $47M in space and highly likely to create more by releasing DeAngelo Hall and Kory Lichtensteiger which would create another $7.7M in space.
We could afford to franchise Cousins again at $24M and still have $30M to play with. Cap is not a constraint.
