Let's think about this logically though. What free agent quarterback would be available next year that is an upgrade from Cousins? I see absolutely nobody. Unless Bill Belichick did the unthinkable and decided to trade an aging Tom Brady (who doesn't appear to be aging by the way), who would the 'skins get? Would you see Dallas trading Romo to Washington? I doubt it. Sanchez to Washington? He couldn't beat out the no-name guy in Denver.

I'm sorry, but you don't have to have an Aaron Rodgers or a Tom Brady to win Super Bowls. Yes, having those guys makes it a heck of a lot easier to win it all, but look at the teams that have won the Super Bowl with less than spectacular quarterbacks. Heck, I don't think Eli Manning is an elite QB and he's won two Super Bowls.

Maybe it's a homer thing to say, but I think Cousins is as good as we can get right now. I think you stick with him for a few more years.

totally agree, keep kirk cuh.

but cookie patterson out of uc stalingrad is looking real good. could snag the davey o'brien award.

When people ask me about this at work, the answer i give is that they would go forward with McCoy because you have him locked up under a LOW contract i believe for the next two years, which fits the mold for Scott M not wanting to spend big money that could affect building the rest of the team.

First let me clarify that I AM NOT SAYING that McCoy could do just as well as Cousins in this system, because i don't think anyone truly knows. Gruden was committed 100% to Cousins in the offseason so I don't think anyone was truly looking at Colt to see how good he was or wasn't. Chris Cooley during his preseason broadcasts was high on Colt and felt that McCoy could start for at least half a dozen teams for sure, and maybe another five or 6 have a chance to battle for the starting job.

So in this scenario Scott M decides to not pay Cousins, they let him walk after this season, and so next season you open the season with Colt McCoy as the day 1 starter. If he plays well and the skins do well, then they look like geniuses because they saved the big money to use to load up on other players. You wont have a money issue until its time for Colt to get a new deal. Obviously if Colt fails then you turn to Sudfield to see what you have in him. If he plays well, then you may have a solution for a while, until it comes contract time and then maybe it's rinse and repeat with whatever possible QB's you have on the roster at that time.

Say for example this works, i wonder if it would change how the league pays QB's. What i am getting at - if a team can get quality / solid play out of QB's who sign lower money contracts, then what is the need to pay a guy 25 - 30 million a season if a team is able to win, or go to a Superbowl with a guy who is only making 2 or 3 million? You could then use that money to load up on other talent...

It is 90% play calling that is killing us in the red zone.

Check yourself, they are going to complete a fade with a dude who hasn't practiced all summer before the end of the year!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, I think McVay outsmarts himself sometimes.

Other times, like the read option against Detroit, the dude is brilliant.

I'd they go with McCoy. They might as well fire Jay Gruden and start looking for a new head coach. Just because McCoy is cheaper, doesn't make it a better situation. Especially with 70 million in cap we will have even in the offseason.

You build a team to win games. You don't just say "fuck it" Let's roll with our 2nd string journeyman this year.

That might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If I'm not sugar coating it. Be the laughing stock of the NFL to tag Kirk for 20 mil this year, just to let the guy who threw for 5k yards go, and run with McCoy because he's cheaper. Holy lawl.

The never ending fade attempt reminds me of the toss sweep from a few years back. I want to say it was Zorn? There was the one season where we just never gave up on the toss sweep in short yardage situations, and never got the first down either. Teams would just blow it up for a loss.

It is ridculous, that's why i wanted to try and clarify with my post that it is not my wish or me saying "it's a good idea", i just get asked alot at work being one of the only redskins fans what we will do at QB if we let Cousins go. That's why i'm saying that could be one possible option, run with McCoy while they try and figure out who their long-term guy is. I was just saying that if they win with McCoy, then the problem might appear to be solved for a while.

If having a revolving door for inexpensive journeyman QB's works, then the Cleveland Browns would be Super Bowl Champions.

How did that work out in Houston over the last several seasons when the Texans wasted a dominating defense?

A capable and experienced QB is a must to win a title. If you have one, then you have no choice but to keep him and pay him the market rate for his services. It's hard for me to imagine that Kirk Cousins is playing to keep his job at this point. Instead, he is playing to determine the rate for his services going forward.

Imagine a world... Where average quarterbacks make elite player money!

You've just imagined reality. You can thank Osweiler and the Texans for that.

It's been so long since we've had a QB worth paying it's like people don't know how to handle it. Letting Cousins walk would be ridiculous.

I would bet my house that if we went with McCoy we would be a 5-11, 6-10 team. His arm strength is horrid. He can't make across the field throws consistently. He's injury prone.

Behind the same Oline he has a 8% sack rate, compared to Kirk's 4%. So in a nutshell, the 12 sacks Kirk has taken this year would be more like 24 sacks in 8 games

There is just so much wrong with McCoy it's not even worth getting in to.
