The Bears have informed Matt Forte that they will not be offering him a contract. Some NFL GM's have said they think his next contract will be in the $4MM/Yr. range. If he can be signed to a cap-friendly contract, I think he might be a very good fit for the Skins. I would expect him to share the workload with Jones.

I like Forte, I just don't see him coming here. RB is just not a money spot any more. If we were one RB away, yes, I would be open to spending some cap space for him. Right now, better to draft and develop a RB who fits.

I am sure I would not keep Hatcher or Knighton. You can save about 10 million dollars if they retire/leave. The draft is very deep at defensive line. And they could sign a free agent NT that is not 50lbs overweight .
But what about their production?

How do you replace the holes created by letting your best run stopper and best pass rushing DL walk?

Seems like digging a hole, only to turn around and have to fill a hole.

With Knighton, the hole is dug b/c he is a free agent. Just a matter if we bring him or someone else back.

Respectfully disagree with the characterization of both.

Knighton's impact, or lack thereof, doesn't really show up in the stat sheet. It's more of an eyeball test. So I guess his performance is in the eye of the evaluator, kind of like PFF or Cooley's film breakdown.

Knighton won't be back except on the cheap. Too fat, too out of shape, and largely ineffective with the occasional flash in the pan.

The best pass rushing D lineman was Big Swaggy Chris Baker, and it wasn't even close.

Chris Baker NFL Football Statistics | Pro-Football-Reference.com (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BakeCh99.htm)

Losing Hatcher with his cap number and not resigning Knighton at 4m isn't going to hurt us.

I predict neither will be here next year.

Probably need to get a little younger along the dline. I think we are going dline with the 1 or 2nd round. Count on paea, Ricky Jean and Baker back. That's really it. I gotta feeling hatcher is gonna retire or cut at his salary. What I read with keim, is that pot roast most likely will not be back. I'd like to see Trent Murphy transition to end. My gut feeling is we go dline first.

Right now with first round ranking:

1. Dline
2. ILB
3. CB

That's how Scott probably looking.

Our dline was actually solid across the board...pot roast started slow and got much better after the bye. Hatcher was effing solid, he took on double teams and collapsed the inside constantly. What killed us was our inside linebacker play against the run...

Probably need to get a little younger along the dline. I think we are going dline with the 1 or 2nd round.No doubt we need to get younger on the DL and this is a good draft for that....but I would hope we don't target a position over taking the BPA. From a distance it looks like DL could be the pick in the first round but at pick 21 another player/position could easily be the BPA.

Count on paea, Ricky Jean and Baker back. That's really it. I gotta feeling hatcher is gonna retire or cut at his salary. What I read with keim, is that pot roast most likely will not be back. I'd like to see Trent Murphy transition to end. My gut feeling is we go dline first.I have no idea what they'll do, I know what I think they should do and for me I would hate to see Hatcher and Knighton go.

I have a hard time seeing Murphy as a DE in the base front....in a 4 man line?Maybe, but I can't see him bulking up enough to be a 34 base DE.

Right now with first round ranking:

1. Dline
2. ILB

That's how Scott probably looking.I don't think Scott looks at the draft based on positional need at all. That doesn't seem to be his MO at all. Scott has professed to be a Best Player Available advocate.

Now maybe overall he ranks positional needs but I don't think he uses positional need rankings to guide his drafting in the 1st round or any round really. I think he takes the BPA.

But on that note if I had grade the defensive units........

CB=D
S=D
ILB=D
DL=C+ (would be a B if they weren't so old)
OLB=B

Will either be back in 2016?

How different will the Redskins' D-line look in 2016? | CSN Mid-Atlantic (http://www.csnmidatlantic.com/redskinsblog/how-different-will-redskins-d-line-look-2016)

Good article here...look at the part about the winning streak and how the dline played down the stretch. Basically they were key.

To your question, my guess is if either is back it would be pot roast. Hatcher probably gonna retire.
