As good as he is as a receiver, that's how bad he is as a blocker. If he could just learn to block decently, he could help to improve our run game, as well.
Exactly. He is not a complete player until he can learn how to block. So right now, great receiving te, below average blocker. He needs to clean this up during the off season.

I really think Niles Paul reclaims his starting job next season. Reed will be used plenty in passing situations. But Niles can block a bit and don't forget how athletic he is too, he can shake a defender or two.
TE depth is better than we remember.

I'm sure NP will get plenty of work but I can't see him on the depth chart over Reed.
Reed has broken out in the biggest way possible. Sure he needs to work on his blocking but that's probably never going to be his strong suit. Who cares when you can get open like he can.

You might be right. It might be both Reed and Paul on the field at the same time in the run game.
That'd make for a pretty good package because both TEs are a pass catching threat. It would make the offense unpredictable, yet built to run.

I have to admit, I wasnt the biggest Jordan Reed fan. I liked that he was a former QB and had "athleticism" but i just didnt seem him being anything more than a decent catch-first TE. With the injuries and his growing rep as a player who would only play at 100% and wouldnt play through pain, I thought the coaching staff just couldnt trust to include this guy in the game plan.
maybe bc we never had a game changing TE, I never appreciated how awesome it is. He is match up nightmare. He catches everything thrown his way. In the gif Cred posted, he is literally breaking guys ankles. On one of his tds against the eagles, it was the same footwork that had the defender frozen and leaning hard the wrong way. And then the dude gets YAC. he somehow manages to slip just enough by defenders to get 2-3 more yards then he really should not have gotten.
he is making great decisions on his read routes now. before it seemed like he always wanted to push his routes down field for big plays but now he is taking what the defenders give him and he and cousins are on the same page. i think it was late in the dolphins game when we were in the red zone, 3rd or 4th down, and the dolphins blitz hard, cousins throws the ball expecting reed to understand it is a hot route and he needs to cut his route short but reed seemed clueless and just keep running a longer developing straight route. we redo that play now, i guarantee reed recognizes and cuts it short, catches ball, td, tie game.
i am amazed at what he brings to the table. i didnt think he or any TE could be this valuable. having 2 concussions on the books is a dark cloud though.

Jay Gruden in Cincy ran 2 TE sets more than anybody in the league...Will be great to see NP and Jordan on the field at the same time next year. BUT Im not convinced the TE core is strong and deep...I would like to see an addition in the offseason with a TE who can block and catch come out of the draft. Play special teams and learn the system.

Antonio Gates isn't making the HoF for his blocking.

Paul, Reed, DJax, Garcon in a standard 2 TE set would be pretty bad ass.
Reed & Paul create real match up problems.

Agreed! I pity the safeties that have to figure out where to slide for coverage. Would be a nightmare.

reed's catching ability more than makes up for his run blocking issues, the same way djax's deep speed scares everyone else.
i'd love if both of them went to the hines ward school of blocking, but your offense is WAY better with them than with whatever blocking replacement you can find, so you live with it.
paul will let us go with more 2 TE when we're not in 3 WR, both formations should be really good for us. there's no way you'd ever put paul in front of reed though. NP isn't a great blocker either, though he has improved.
