It makes zero sense to play him. It's not going to happen.
What makes zero sense is getting either Cousins or McCoy hurt and going into the playoffs with Rob as our primary backup.

Having that injury guarantee kick in because of a meaningless week 17 game would be a horrible decision. The decision to not let him touch the field was made long ago, can't see that changing now.

Somehow, I believe in my heart that if RGIII saw the field he would surely suffer a serious injury, costing the Skins $16MM in cap space. I don't mean he'd do it on purpose, either. That's just how snake-bit we've been for two decades.
Is worrying about both Kirk and Colt getting hurt just a symptom of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome caused by decades of being a Redskins fan? Could be, could be...
Wife: "Wake up, wake up! You were having a nightmare, thrashing about and shouting 'Sixteen fucking million dollars in cap space down the drain!'."
Husband: "It was horrible! I was back in Fedex Field and..."

The Patriots, Giants, Seahawks (along with many others) all play their starters in the final games of the season when they are in the playoff hunt.
In the highly unlikely event that Cousins or McCoy are injured in week 17 I'm sure Scott has a good handle on practice squad QB they'll sign to the roster to be the back-up. It doesn't make sense to make it this far then suddenly decide to roll the dice on 16 mil.

I think the starters who are healthy should at least go out and play a half of football. Let them get some real time reps to keep them fresh but there's no reason they need to play all four quarters especially if the game turns into one of your typical NFC East rivalry games where things tend to get chippy.

Even with the playoffs locked up in week 16 I still have to stress out about week 17. Lol.

"It was really satisfying to watch Carey say that there was no doubt the Eagles Zach Ertze's fumble would definitely be overturned, maybe it was more of his feelings than his head talking. The play was confirmed and Mr. Carey was dead wrong and silenced for the rest of the broadcast after that."
Carey is terrible at his job, and its no great secret:

He has come on strong since receiving the starting job....its not farfetched to think that both Robinson and Riley will be elsewhere next season due to the amazing contributions of Foster and Compton.
